About The Position

Associate Director of Operations for the Anatomic Pathology division in the Department of Pathology. Utilizes management, customer service, and multiple technical skills to oversee the Anatomic Pathology Operations and laboratory managers for the Gross Room lab, Cytology, Autopsy Services, and Clinical Documentation Services. Continually evaluates, develops and implements quality improvements for surgical pathology clinical services. Ensures the evaluation, production, completion, and accuracy of high quality technical methods and processes in a timely fashion. Develops and maintains procedures applicable to Anatomic Pathology. Works in conjunction with the Surgical Pathology Director and the Director of Operations for Anatomic Pathology to maintain and ensure the pathology quality plan. Works in conjunction with AP Directors of Anatomic Path, Surgical Path, Autopsy, Cytopathology, Neuropathology, the OSU Histology Lab, LLC, and the Community Pathology Director to maintain high quality methods, processes and operations. Interacts with pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, laboratory managers, and laboratory staff to provide quality services and technical assistance. Ensures CAP and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) inspection readiness for Anatomic Pathology. Ensures staff compliance with all testing, billing, and reporting requirements. Responsible for assessing and implementing new changes in technology, laboratory design and equipment for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory. Plans for new approaches to improve the quality of service. Runs and/or attends pathology meetings, as required (such as Surg Path Ops, AP Faculty meetings, Pathology Faculty meetings, AP Operations meetings, etc.). Assists Department Chair, Chief Administrative Officer, Director of Operations for Anatomic Pathology, and Vice Chairs, as needed. Completes performance reviews, hiring and when needed, disciplinary activities for direct reports, and assisting managers with these tasks, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science.
  • 6 years of relevant experience required.
  • ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire.
