About The Position

Coordinate, conduct and complete risk-based investigations in support of RBC's Investor Services (IS) business, through the gathering, analysis and evaluation of relevant information in order to determine whether sufficient suspicion exists of money laundering, financing of terrorism or other criminal activities, to justify making a report to the Regulatory Authority for the purpose of complying with regulatory requirements and mitigating risk to RBC in line with established organizational policy. Provide expertise in complex IS AML investigations. Support the Director, Global Capital Markets Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), in the continued development of the Canadian IS FIU program.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in financial and money laundering crime investigation and / or a law enforcement / regulatory background and/or banking background.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of IS products and their use in Financial Crimes.
  • In-depth knowledge of IS products, their lifecycles, settlement flows, and their use in Financial Crimes.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word applications. – (Level 2 or above).

Responsibilities

  • Gather information/intelligence from all available sources in order to determine whether sufficient suspicion of money laundering, financing of terrorism or other criminal activities exists, to justify making a report to the relevant Regulatory Authority for the purpose of complying with legislative/regulatory requirements, and mitigating risk to RBC in line with established organizational policy.
  • Plan, conduct and complete risk-based investigations into relevant matters across the IS Canada footprint, including but not limited to those originating from: Intelligence received from external sources, Incidents generated from transaction monitoring and media scanning, with referral to IS based on complexity or specific typology (such as terrorist financing or organized crime), Referrals from internal partners and other business Units.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to provide specialist advice, guidance and direction to team members on money laundering, financing of terrorism and related issues as it pertains to IS.
  • Share knowledge and experience with team members to assist in their comprehensive understanding of investigations related to the IS FIU.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records of all investigative actions and decisions taken, ensuring that all material and information obtained is treated in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and RBC policy.
  • Promote, support and adhere to RBC’s policies and guidelines on Code of Conduct, Personal and Professional Development, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Data Protection and Information Security, in accordance with published Policy / Guidance documents and protocols.
  • Recommend SARs and STR’s including to external jurisdictions as required in liaison with local AML staff.
  • Provide quality control for investigation reports as required by your role, including the results of PEP, High Risk Clients, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Compliance and Corporate Investigation Services (CIS) referrals.
  • Where required attend internal and external committee meetings.
  • Personally responsible and accountable for self-development and maintaining up to date knowledge, best practices and skills sets for relevant IS Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing (TF), Sanction and other regulatory matters in support of the investigative function.
  • Provide advice, guidance and, within policy, direction to internal clients and other team members on ML and related issues, seeking guidance when required from supervisors and other colleagues.
  • In conjunction with the Director, Global CM FIU and / or Vice President, Financial Intelligence Unit, proactively develops and maintains a network of internal partners and external peers in the industry, law enforcement and other relevant partners to support investigation requirements and to ensure the IS FIU is aware of current threats, opportunities, and best practice in the industry.
