Associate Director, Intercultural Programming
About The Position
The Thea Bowman AHANA Intercultural Center is hiring an Associate Director of Intercultural Programming. The Associate Director provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of intercultural education, LGBTQ+initiatives and programming, heritage month celebrations, campus-wide signature events, and leadership development initiatives. This role is responsible for the planning and implementation of several large-scale events, including signature intercultural programs such as Spectrum Retreat, Lavender Graduation, and various peer mentorship and dialogue groups supporting LGBTQ+ students. In addition, the Associate Director creates and delivers educational programming for students and the broader BC community focused on engaging across differences, fostering meaningful dialogue, and developing engaged communities in support of Boston College’s Jesuit mission. The Associate Director serves as a resource to undergraduate students in supporting their holistic development. In this role, the Associate Director advises a portfolio of intercultural student organizations, manages their day-to-day operations, and coordinates mentoring programs and campus engagement opportunities aligned with Student Affairs strategic priorities. The Associate Director of Intercultural Programming coordinates and oversees programs and services that directly enhance student experience and engagement within a Jesuit, Catholic context. This position is responsible for developing and managing processes to deliver successful, outcome-driven student programming aligned with University and divisional strategic goals regarding community engagement. Additionally, the Associate Director directly supervises an Assistant Director and a Graduate Assistant. Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed. This is an in-office position.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Counseling or Higher Education, or related field required.
- 5-7 years of demonstrated progressive student affairs experience, including experience with students from a range of backgrounds and experiences and/or in intercultural affairs or related fields.
- Experience in working with LGBTQ+ students on a college campus.
- Must use professional judgment and creative thinking to develop educational strategies and resources that support student learning, meaningful dialogue, and community engagement.
- Must exercise sound judgment in identifying and managing potential risks associated with programs while supporting opportunities for student learning, engagement, and community building.
- Expertise in student leadership and programming.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a significant program with budget responsibility.
- Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with academic and student life partners across the University.
- Ability to advocate for and provide leadership to students.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with students and respond thoughtfully to their needs and perspectives.
- Ability to use ongoing assessment to evaluate program effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and adapt programs accordingly.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills and demonstrated ability to incorporate restorative practices in supporting dialogue, accountability, and community building.
- Understanding and supportive of the Jesuit Catholic mission of Boston College.
