About The Position

The Associate Director, Government Affairs is a member of the Government Affairs team led by the Vice President, Government Affairs and partners in the development and execution of Lundbeck's federal government affairs strategy to advance the company's business priorities and improve patient access. The role represents Lundbeck with federal policymakers, trade associations, patient and provider organizations, and other external stakeholders while providing strategic policy insights, identifying emerging legislative and regulatory issues, and collaborating across the enterprise to support informed business decisions and effective advocacy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative affairs, healthcare policy, or advocacy within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, government, trade association, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with and influencing federal policymakers, Congressional offices, federal agencies, trade associations, patient and provider organizations, and other key stakeholders to advance public policy objectives.
  • Experience analyzing legislative and regulatory developments, assessing business impact, and developing strategic advocacy recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of the federal legislative process, healthcare policy, and the pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
  • Strategic thinker with sound political judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (e.g., J.D., M.P.P., M.P.A., M.B.A., or other relevant graduate degree).
  • Experience representing an organization before Congress, federal agencies, or national healthcare trade associations (e.g., PhRMA, BIO).
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry supporting federal healthcare policy, patient access, or reimbursement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Vice President, Government Affairs in the development and execution of Lundbeck's federal government affairs strategy to advance the company's business objectives, improve patient access, and respond to the evolving legislative and regulatory environment.
  • Develops and executes federal advocacy initiatives by building and maintaining strategic relationships with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, federal agencies, and other key policymakers, with particular focus on priority committees, leadership offices, and targeted state delegations.
  • Partners in the development and execution of executive engagement strategies that strengthen external relationships and advance advocacy priorities.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with patient advocacy organizations, professional societies, trade associations, and coalition partners to identify opportunities for collaboration, advance shared policy objectives, and support initiatives that improve patient access and outcomes.
  • Monitors and analyzes federal legislative and regulatory developments, assesses potential business impact, and provides timely policy intelligence and strategic recommendations to Government Affairs leadership and cross-functional business partners.
  • Partners in annual government affairs planning and priority setting by identifying emerging policy risks, legislative opportunities, stakeholder engagement strategies, and advocacy priorities that support Lundbeck's business objectives.
  • Collaborates with Patient Advocacy, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Communications, Commercial, and other cross-functional partners to develop coordinated policy strategies, address policy and access challenges, and ensure alignment on external engagement activities.
  • Represents Lundbeck in industry trade associations, coalitions, and external stakeholder forums, including active participation in PhRMA and other relevant organizations, contributing to policy discussions, industry positions, and the exchange of legislative intelligence.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with external partners, including alliance partners, life sciences organizations, patient and provider groups, and other key stakeholders to advance shared advocacy objectives.
  • Manages external lobbying consultants and political advisors, establishing priorities, coordinating advocacy activities, and ensuring alignment with Lundbeck's government affairs strategy and objectives.
  • Represents Lundbeck at congressional meetings, political events, industry conferences, coalition meetings, and other external forums to strengthen the company's visibility, relationships, and advocacy efforts.
