About The Position

The Associate Director, Global Medical Affairs Business Insights & Technology (BI&T) – Medical Insights Lead is accountable for the product management and effective delivery of BI&T capabilities and services that generate, synthesize, and action medical insights in support of BMS Global Medical Affairs, Therapeutic Area Teams, Field Medical, and Commercialization as a whole. This role positions BMS Medical Affairs for success in the digital era by transforming how insights are leveraged across the organization. The role partners with stakeholders across the BMS Medical Excellence Team, Therapeutic Area Teams, the Commercialization AI Strategy & Analytics (CASA) Team, and other BI&T teams to define and drive digital capabilities in the area of Medical Insights. The focus includes understanding requirements and enabling capabilities such as Medical Insight Capture & Analysis, insight data pipeline identification and enablement, and the integration of insights data within relevant Medical Affairs and Commercialization workflows. The vision of the Medical Affairs organization is to transform lives through patient-driven science. You will be expected to lead and accelerate Medical's digitization through technology innovation, ensuring that information capabilities and operations are reliable, accessible, and secure - enabling BMS to become competitively differentiated in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. You will partner closely with matrix teams across the Enterprise and build strong partnerships with Medical leadership to drive adoption of digital insights capabilities.

Requirements

  • Requires Bachelor's degree, MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Strong domain expertise in the application of technology to Medical Affairs, with particular depth in medical insights/customer engagement, and how they are enabled by technology solutions and data.
  • 7-10 years of experience in similar roles in Pharmaceuticals IT, Medical Affairs, or Commercial functions, with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Track record of leading the analysis of complex and ambiguous business needs and integrating these into compelling, actionable strategic plans and investment business cases with global reach.
  • Experience driving digital capabilities to create a superior customer experience.
  • Demonstrable commitment to assess and apply innovative AI and new technologies to use cases in Medical Affairs, achieving a balance between pragmatic value and transformation.
  • Experience of large-scale application deployments, and how to work with software & consulting partners ensure maximum value and effectiveness.
  • Experience maximizing value from enterprise BI&T platforms, including Veeva Vault CRM, Veeva Link, and insights/analytics platforms.
  • Working knowledge of agile methodologies applied to SDLC and IT services.
  • Ability to drive strategic connections between Medical Affairs, Commercial and Clinical Development functions with an enterprise mindset and reimagine digital capabilities.
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with ability to influence teams toward an executable vision.
  • Seasoned line and matrix management skills, with a particular emphasis on energizing and developing experienced IT professionals spread across multiple functions.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the Medical Insights Technology Roadmap: Drives the development of realistic and actionable multi-year strategic roadmaps for medical insights capabilities, informed by and jointly aligned with business process owners and CASA counterparts. Prioritizes the portfolio appropriately and is accountable for overall portfolio execution. Maintains an intimate understanding of the data products that inform and are generated by these business processes.
  • Develops compelling business cases: Leads the prioritization and development of strong, clear business cases for insights capability investments aligned with the platform strategy and organizational roadmap. Defines, measures, and achieves business outcomes for the highest-value (at lowest cost) insights capabilities.
  • Brings an external view: Actively maintains awareness of external drivers and relevant technology trends related to medical insight identification and workflow, bringing new ideas and benchmarks to the organization.
  • Knows what value looks like: Understands where BMS should be competitively differentiated through insights and analytics in Medical Affairs; translates business needs into specific requirements; identifies realistic opportunities for technology to add more value; and balances ambition with a pragmatic "fit for purpose" mindset.
  • Builds strong partnerships with Medical Affairs leaders: Is viewed by senior business leaders as an effective, credible partner who plans and delivers insights capabilities, safeguards data assets, and supports strategic goals.
  • Recognized as a trusted advisor: Influences the strategic thinking of Medical Affairs leaders and CASA partners - helping them incorporate future capabilities into their planning and decision-making.
  • Builds relationships: Maintains effective working relationships with all relevant business leaders; is deeply involved with key business activities and forums; is responsible for building and managing effective business partnerships at all levels during capability delivery; and takes full accountability for delivering the value proposition of BI&T.
  • Enables change adoption : Partners with business process owners and change management leads to ensure technology delivery supports effective change management (e.g., release and cutover planning, impact assessment inputs, communications/training enablement, hypercare and support readiness). Ensures the required technical artifacts and inputs are delivered on time for each initiative to maximize adoption and value realization.
  • Demonstrates matrix leadership: Leverages partnerships across functions, including internal BI&T partners such as Core Services, Commercialization BI&T Field Strategy/Events, and CASA to deliver services to Medical Affairs.
  • Empowers delivery teams: Understands accountabilities throughout the portfolio lifecycle - gathering requirements from stakeholders, ensuring proper relay to delivery teams, and owning outcomes. Builds empowered and trusting partnerships with delivery team members at all levels, including application owners, Cybersecurity, and ITQA.
  • Constructively advocates for value: Ensures delivery teams understand how to make the right trade-offs between speed, quality, and cost. Connects business stakeholders with the broader BI&T services and ensures value is captured across the full investment lifecycle (from launch through retirement).
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in communication: Communicates successes and issues accurately, urgently, and to the right audience; takes accountability for effective management of expectations with business leaders.
  • Acts with urgency and courage: Shows tenacity and respect to address uncomfortable conversations and remove roadblocks to value delivery.
