Associate Director, Global Intranet Communications and Change

Eli Lilly and CompanyUs, IN
Onsite

About The Position

This is a fixed duration, two-year assignment that begins as the platform vendor is selected and guides the program through platform design and build to a metrics-driven global launch. This role owns the end-to-end communications approach for the program. It shapes the employee experience from the communications side of platform design, leads the change communications that build organizational readiness across leaders and stakeholders, drives adoption among the employees who will use the platform every day, and ensures a seamless launch measured against clear success metrics. Reporting to the Executive Director of Internal Communications, the Associate Director serves as the dedicated communications and change communications lead on the core program team, working at the intersection of communications, human resources, technology, and user experience, and collaborating closely across Lilly’s global communications teams to translate a complex technology transformation into a clear, motivating story for the enterprise. A faster, better-connected global workforce means faster, clearer decisions in service of the patients Lilly's work ultimately reaches.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep experience with the communications discipline of change management, with the judgment to sequence, pace, and land change messages across many audiences at once.
  • Ability to act as the communications and employee-experience voice in platform design and vendor conversations, simplifying complex technology into clear value for non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record designing adoption strategies that move employees from awareness to sustained use, including hard-to-reach frontline and deskless populations.
  • Comfortable building measurement frameworks from the ground up, working across multiple data sources, and translating metrics into clear stories for leadership.
  • Strong writer with the range to move between employee-facing content, change and readiness materials, and executive and governance reporting without losing quality or clarity.
  • Demonstrated ability to build alignment across communications, human resources, Tech@Lilly, and user experience, functions that do not always share the same priorities or timelines.
  • Comfortable operating across a distributed, multi-country organization, with the discipline to prioritize and execute in a fast-moving program environment.
  • Proficiency with modern intranet and internal communications platforms, including Viva Engage, Microsoft Teams, and enterprise email; familiarity with content management, translation, and analytics tools a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall communications strategy for the new global intranet, defining the narrative, audience approach, and channel plan from platform design through launch and into early operations.
  • Serve as the communications and employee-experience voice in platform design and configuration, translating the program’s design principles into practical requirements and advocating for a global workforce before adoption barriers emerge.
  • Partner with the program manager, business owner, technology, user experience, and the selected vendor and implementation partner to align communications and change milestones with the technical delivery plan.
  • Own the enterprise change communications strategy, developing the messages, campaigns, and content that prepare leaders, the 200-plus editor community, and employees for new ways of working, new governance, and a new platform, and keeping the program sponsors aligned through key decision points.
  • Lead the change management program for the global communications team, guiding communicators through the new platform, editorial tools, workflows, and ways of working so the team is ready to operate confidently at launch and beyond.
  • Partner with the program’s organizational change management resource to turn the change plan and readiness milestones into clear, well-timed communications for each audience, owning the communications discipline that supports the broader change management approach.
  • Design and lead the adoption strategy for everyone who will use the intranet, from knowledge workers to frontline and deskless colleagues, with campaigns that drive sustained use of its news, search, personalization, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Establish refreshed editorial and publishing guidelines and a refined playbook, alongside plain-language onboarding and training, that set content editors and employees up to succeed in a new era of technology and ways of working, in partnership with the training lead.
  • Build feedback loops that capture employee and editor signals before, during, and after launch to continuously improve adoption, accounting for accessibility, language, and local needs across Lilly’s global affiliates and multilingual translation model.
  • Own the communications and change dimensions of launch readiness, coordinating a seamless go-live so every audience knows what is changing and how to be successful day one.
  • Define and own the measurement framework, establishing baselines, metrics, and reporting cadences for awareness, adoption, engagement, and satisfaction, in partnership with technology, human resources analytics, and platform owners, and translate the data into clear insights for the program team and governance.
  • Support a clean transition to the ongoing support model at the close of the assignment, handing off the measurement framework, adoption playbook, and editor engagement approach to Enterprise Communications and the business owner.
