As the Associate Director, Global Affairs, you’ll play a critical role in supporting undergraduate and graduate students—domestic and international—as they navigate career exploration, professional development, and global employment pathways. Global careers require insight, adaptability, and a deep understanding of international student needs. In this role, you’ll boldly design and deliver advising, education, and programs that prepare students to succeed across borders, cultures, and employment systems. You’ll serve as a campus leader in global career development, forging partnerships and using data, technology, and best practices to expand access and opportunity.

Requirements

Minimum Education: Work requires a master's degree in counseling, student personnel administration or a related field.
Minimum Experience: Work requires two (2) years of experience in a college or university career services office or directly related experience.

Nice To Haves

At least three (3) years of management experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated leadership, management and strategic skills, along with knowledge of the career and professional development needs of international undergraduate & graduate students at highly selective institutions is essential.
Knowledge of and experience with professional development, assessment, and learning styles is preferred.
Possess intercultural and global skills and experiences and understand the domestic and international employment landscape and share this information with key stakeholders (e.g. co-workers, staff, students, employers, and faculty).
Experience delivering career advising services to international students at all levels of academic progress, undergraduate through PhD.

Experience with social media platforms, including familiarity with social analytics tools and ability to quickly learn new technology and anticipate new trends.
Strength developing and sustaining professional relationships with alumni, employers, colleagues, faculty, staff and representing the Career Center and Duke University to internal and external contacts.
Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences including student and business correspondence as well as the ability to use current communication tools such as blogs, video and social media to deliver Career Center content.
Strong advising and teaching abilities effective across a diverse and global population particularly in the realms of professional development; career exploration; decision making; and job/internship searches.
Capacity to balance multiple and varied tasks, meet deadlines, and use well-developed time management and organizational skills.
Discretion when accessing and handling confidential information.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and ability to learn new technologies.
Experience with database maintenance and/or familiarity with campus recruiting software, i.e. Handshake

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group career advising and coaching—both in person and virtually—covering career exploration, decision-making, internships, job search strategies, interviewing, and global employment pathways.
Develop advising structures, mentoring opportunities, and scalable programs that support international students and those pursuing careers outside the U.S.
Create, edit, and share high-quality written and multimedia career content that advances Duke’s Career Everywhere philosophy.
Develop and execute a career development strategy informed by domestic and international employment trends.
Curate credible, up-to-date resources for students, staff, and alumni.
Leverage platforms such as Handshake, Big Interview, Interstride, and uConnect to maximize student learning and staff effectiveness.
Partner closely with Visa Services to ensure students and staff have accurate, current information about employment in the U.S.
Plan and deliver advising initiatives, employer engagement activities, campus programs, classroom presentations, and events focused on international students and global careers.
Facilitate workshops and trainings using inclusive, contemporary in-person and digital methods.
Collaborate with the Duke Alumni Network to strengthen a global alumni community that supports student career exploration and outcomes.
Partner with Employer Relations colleagues to cultivate relationships with employers worldwide.
Design, implement, and assess programs and signature events that build career readiness and global competencies.
Build and sustain relationships across Duke and with external partners to support program success.
Coordinate logistics and collaborate with marketing and event teams to ensure strong outreach and engagement.
Use institutional data and assessment tools to evaluate services and inform continuous improvement.
Build Career Center staff capacity to effectively support international students.
Monitor trends impacting global careers and make strategic recommendations.
Perform other related duties as needed to support departmental goals.
