About The Position

The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial Associate Director of Marketing and Business Development to lead marketing and growth for professional and lifelong learning. This position is part of a growing team within the SEAS Office of Professional Education (PE), dedicated to advancing SEAS’ professional education portfolio, expanding the School’s translational impact, and strengthening external engagement. Reporting to the Director for Professional Education, the Associate Director of Marketing and Business Development will build from the ground up the marketing and enrollment infrastructure and multi-channel strategy for the SEAS professional education brand and entire portfolio including online, in-person, and blended programs serving both domestic and global markets. Balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution, the Associate Director will identify and assess market opportunities, lead business development initiatives, and translate data and insights into actionable strategies that drive growth in lead generation, conversion, and enrollment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in enrollment marketing and/or business development, including leading marketing strategy at the brand or identity level.
  • Experience with CRMs/marketing automation platforms and digital marketing including tools and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, shape, and execute the overall strategy and operating model for PE departmental functions of marketing, communications, enrollment, and business development at the portfolio level, in collaboration with the Director of PE.
  • Lead efforts to identify and evaluate new market opportunities systematically, whether conducted in-house or in partnership with external vendors.
  • Build and operationalize a scalable go-to-market protocol for launching new program campaigns.
  • In collaboration with faculty, senior leadership, and other colleagues across the School, develop and maintain the core messaging and narrative that raises the visibility of SEAS PE and conveys the value of professional learning from SEAS, ensuring a positive and consistent user experience.
  • Participate in School- and University-level working groups related to marketing, business development, enrollment, and professional and lifelong learning.
  • Maintain adherence to School and University guidelines for judicious, ethical, and effective deployment and scaling of generative AI tools in marketing and business development activities.
  • Delegate tasks to PE team members with clarity and appropriate scaffolding.
  • Support departmental administrative and delivery duties as assigned.
  • Set and manage the annual marketing budget, aligning investments with strategy, channel performance, and return on investment (ROI), in collaboration with the Director.
  • Advance the use of Salesforce for establishing a platform funnel, automating marketing and email campaigns, implementing event- and trigger-based communications, and selecting and measuring success metrics.
  • Serve as principal content and digital strategist for the PE website, content marketing, and ad buys, ensuring on-brand, user-centered content and experiences that support lead generation and enrollment.
  • Select, manage, and collaborate with digital agencies across all media channels to execute campaigns and apply industry best practices.
  • Develop and curate social, search engine optimization, and answer engine optimization strategies, analyzing performance data to identify opportunities, refine content, and improve key outcomes (e.g., leads, enrollments, engagement).
  • Develop and deliver regular quantitative and qualitative reports on the marketing funnel (from awareness to enrollment), campaign performance, and ROI across key channels; help develop and maintain executive dashboards for SEAS leadership.
  • Build and maintain the participant enrollment process including CRM automation, bulk buy and B2B pathways, and customer service support.
  • Plan and manage integrated marketing campaigns and program launches in close collaboration with program delivery staff, coordinating timelines, assets, and execution across channels (web, email, social, paid).
  • Partner with the Director of PE to identify and prioritize new segments, institutional partners, and program opportunities based on analysis of trends in internal and external market data.
  • Inform new program development, program improvements, and portfolio alignment based on competitive and market research.
  • Evaluate program outcomes and recommend improvements to curriculum and delivery to align with market conditions.
  • Leverage relationships with SEAS alumni and PE past participants to support referral and re-engagement campaigns that drive awareness and enrollments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across SEAS and Harvard, including SEAS Office of Industry Research & Research Strategy and Harvard GRID, to surface opportunities for new offerings, collaborations, and cross-promotion.
