About The Position

The Associate Director for Human Resources - Benefits is responsible for managing employee group benefit programs, including enrollment, administration, and record maintenance. This role serves as a liaison between employees and insurance carriers, investigating and resolving claims, answering benefits questions, and providing summary plan information. The position involves processing enrollments, changes, and terminations, ensuring compliance with COBRA, and maintaining insurance information through the BenefitSolver system. Additionally, the Associate Director assists with new employee onboarding, coordinates the Health Care Committee, utilizes the Banner system for data input and reporting, and fosters strong relationships across the College. The role also includes administering employee leaves of absence, FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation claims, and the retirement manager system. Overseeing employee separations, conducting exit interviews, compiling reports, implementing alternative retirement options, and maintaining employee databases are also key functions. The position requires reviewing and processing employee documents in HR systems, advising employees on benefits, promoting positive morale, and assisting with departmental goal evaluation and improvement plans. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 120 college hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in the human resources field (e.g. benefits, compensation, employee relations, etc.).
  • Experience working with a data system to record and track benefit and other employee information.
  • Experience with worker's compensation and unemployment.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of information technology and relational database applications.
  • Ability to grasp concepts and procedures quickly.
  • Strong detail orientation and ability to multi-task with little direct supervision.
  • Strong judgment, decisiveness, interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a customer-service oriented and collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate work in Human Resource Management, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or related field or directly related human resources work experience that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Ten (10) years of human resources experience encompassing all aspects of human resources in a professional office setting with increasing responsibility within the human resources department.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Experience working with Ellucian Banner or a similar Enterprise Resource Planning software system.

Responsibilities

  • Managing employee group benefit programs including enrollment and administration.

  • Monitoring and processing insurance plan enrollments, changes, and terminations ensuring compliance with COBRA law and procedures.
  • Organizing and maintaining insurance information through the online benefits administration system, BenefitSolver.
  • Assisting with new employee onboarding, including explaining the company's benefits package and assisting with benefit enrollment.
  • Confirming the enrollment and correct calculations for payment of the monthly invoice for the Lake County Schools Consortium.
  • Attending monthly meetings of the Lake County Schools Consortium and participating in the discussion process.
  • Serving as the coordinator of the Health Care Committee by setting up the quarterly meetings and providing clerical assistance.
  • Utilizing Banner (Learning Information System) to respond to inquiries and perform data input and reporting as needed.
  • Building strong relationships across the College to foster communication and transparency.
  • Administering employee benefit programs; responding directly to employee inquiries and helping resolve issues.
  • Coordinating and administering employee leaves of absence, FMLA and ADA workplace accommodations.
  • Handling workers compensation claims on campus.
  • Administering the retirement manager system.
  • Overseeing, coordinating, and managing employee separations and applicable offboarding activities including exit interviews.
  • Compiling, analyzing, and generating customized reports for administrative and external sources.
  • Implementing/communicating alternative retirement options and acting as point of contact for communications with SERS and STRS representatives.
  • Implementing, tracking, and maintaining databases of various employee information.
  • Reviewing and processing documents on new, current, and former employees in HR systems.
  • Advising, counseling, and answering inquiries regarding benefits enrollment or related issues.
  • Promoting positive morale and teamwork within the department and providing exceptional customer service to all employees, students, and the community.
  • Assisting with the process for systematic review and evaluation of the department’s goals, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The annual salary is grade 5 of the administrative and supervisory/professional salary schedule.
  • The anticipated hiring range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000/year.
