About The Position

Biogen is seeking an accomplished Associate Director, Enterprise Architecture to define and govern the technology architecture supporting its Global Commercial & Medical (GCM) organization. This senior individual-contributor role ensures technology solutions align with business strategy, regulatory expectations, and compliance requirements while delivering secure, scalable, business-value-driven outcomes. As the lead architect for the Commercial and Medical domains, this role owns the target-state architecture, business capability roadmap, and integration strategy across a diverse ecosystem of platforms and applications. The architect identifies capability gaps, reduces duplication and fragmentation, and guides decisions that improve speed to market, reduce risk, and strengthen long-term scalability. Working with business and IT leaders, the role translates priorities such as product launches, international expansion, acquisitions, omnichannel engagement, and medical communications into actionable technology roadmaps. The role helps simplify the GCM technology landscape, enable innovation, and ensure Commercial and Medical platforms are future-ready. It also provides architecture leadership for strategic initiatives, develops multi-year roadmaps, guides architecture practices across delivery teams, and represents GCM in enterprise architecture forums. The position is a senior individual-contributor role listed at management job level.

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible IT experience, preferably including global or enterprise-level roles.
  • 5+ years of experience in architecture leadership roles, such as Enterprise Architect or equivalent.
  • Enterprise Architecture experience in pharmaceutical or biotech companies, with direct architecture ownership of Commercial and/or Medical business platforms for CRM, omnichannel engagement, field operations, patient services, and promotional and medical content (e.g., Veeva, Salesforce, PromoMats, MedComms).
  • Strong understanding of Commercial and Medical business capabilities, value streams, regulatory considerations such as promotional review and HCP engagement compliance, and global operating needs.
  • Solid knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, APIs, and event-driven architecture, with working knowledge of data architecture sufficient to design how business applications connect.
  • Proven ability to translate business priorities into target-state architecture, roadmaps, and practical solution designs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across business, IT, and global delivery teams.

  • Develop multi-year enterprise architecture and business capability roadmaps for the evolution of Commercial and Medical platforms in line with business priorities, value streams, and capability needs.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and rationalize the application portfolio by reducing overlapping systems, improving integration quality, lowering total cost of ownership, and avoiding unnecessary fragmentation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including cloud services, automation, AI/ML, and generative AI, for GCM business needs and integrate high-value capabilities with appropriate security and compliance controls.
  • Partner with enterprise integration, data and analytics, security, infrastructure, delivery, and platform teams to ensure architecture decisions are practical, scalable, and executable.
