About The Position

The Associate Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading, developing, and executing EHS strategies and programs for the facility located in Mountain Home, Arkansas, including operations involving ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a strong safety culture and minimizing environmental impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, occupational safety, environmental science, or a related field
  • 8-12+ years of progressive EHS experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing regulatory compliance programs and audits.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and regulatory audits.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental regulations
  • Expertise in industrial hygiene and hazardous chemical exposure controls
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and risk assessment capabilities
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or similar (preferred).
  • Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001 preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement site-wide EHS strategies aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on EHS matters, including hazardous chemical management and EtO sterilization processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop EHS staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Regulatory teams to integrate EHS into business processes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FIFRA, NESHAP, and applicable state/local regulations.
  • Oversee compliance related to ethylene oxide (EtO) use, including emissions control, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Maintain permits, licenses, and reporting requirements (e.g., air permits, hazardous waste, TRI reporting).
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Manage environmental programs including air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and reduction of emissions, particularly EtO.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness and spill response plans are effective and up to date.
  • Implement and maintain safety programs (e.g., LOTO, confined space, PPE, hazard communication).
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Track and report EHS metrics using Benchmark and KPIs to leadership.
  • Lead safety committees and employee engagement efforts.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by engaging leadership and employees in proactive safety initiatives to raise awareness.
