The Associate Director, Donor Relations, works closely with colleagues across the Mass General Brigham (MGB) Development Office to oversee a team of writers who draft compelling stewardship reports that update donors on the impact of their philanthropy. The Associate Director reports to the Director, overseeing the narrative/impact reporting program and plays a key role as a member of the Donor Relations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5-7 years of related experience
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with project management and program development required
  • Ability to interact professionally with front-line staff as well as senior leaders in the development office and across the hospital
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and demonstrated ability in multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively under deadlines and changing priorities
  • The ability to resolve moderately complex problems and use judgment within defined practices and procedures, and to fully apply standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • The ability to contribute to the fulfilment of projects and organizational objectives
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in laypeople’s terms
  • Takes initiative and functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team, with a willingness to assist with routine and last-minute projects
  • Proven ability to achieve under deadline pressure and deal with confidential information with discretion
  • Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite of products, as well as the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital platforms and programs
  • Good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information

Responsibilities

  • Manage a 3-person team; identify, develop, and retain the next generation of leaders within the department: 1) Develop timely and tailored performance reviews for direct reports; 2) Maintain up-to-date job descriptions and recruit new staff; 3) Provide mentoring, coaching, and career advice to staff, as appropriate;
  • Serve as an ardent and visible advocate for the team and as a key partner in fundraising efforts, building strong relationships with Development and hospital colleagues.
  • Manage reporting strategy and execution for assigned major and principal gift donors.
  • Research potential new reporting and engagement tools for use with this group.
  • Collaborate closely with development office staff, MGB leadership, Donor Relations recognition colleagues, and faculty across Mass General Brigham to ensure thoughtful stewardship of this cohort group.
  • Working with the Director, support the Donor Relations Team’s efforts to bring innovation to the reporting programs.
  • Benchmark peer institutions for creative ways to use electronic and other forms of communication to inform donors about the impact of their philanthropy.
  • Spearhead new initiatives on reporting as well as increased efficiency and streamlined workflow.
  • In addition to overseeing reporting for major and principal gift donors, maintain a portfolio of select donor reports.
  • Interview physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals to gain insight on specific accomplishments (both incremental and significant), new clinical applications, leveraged funding opportunities, and other areas of interest to donors.
  • Conduct independent research on scientific papers and submissions, clinical trials, laboratory and lecture content related to donor-supported initiatives.
  • Plan and write annual narrative reports that convey the impact of philanthropic support on the Hospital's mission, as well as details on specific initiatives funded by donors.
  • Collaborate with gift officers to determine optimal content, tone, and approach for each donor.
  • Produce reports in a timely fashion and/or to meet specific deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications and Digital Engagement team and lead projects such as stewardship videos, infographics, and other joint efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Director and other reporting team members, contribute to the evolution and execution of standards related to Guiding Principles and reporting templates that ensure consistent and efficient stewardship reporting across gift type.
  • Take the lead in ensuring reporting for donors in portfolio is integrated with their other stewardship activities.
  • Assist with implementing processes for collecting donor feedback on reporting and video program.
  • Help identify and implement improvements to the programs as a result of donor feedback.
  • In coordination with Information Systems Management (ISM), enter report-related data into the Atlas database and use the system to assist in keeping major gift officers informed of deadlines and report status, as well as donor feedback.
  • Leverage Workfront system for project management and report reviews and approvals.
  • Work with Donor Relations Associate to ensure finalizing and delivery of reports and uploading of final reports to Atlas.
