About The Position

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Associate Director Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management services for a diverse range of construction projects and programs. This role will cover sectors such as commercial real estate, data centers, energy and industrial, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other public and private developments within the Houston market. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing internal and external stakeholders and ensuring the successful delivery of cost management services. This client-facing role requires strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Associate Director will provide leadership, direction, and promote the company's purpose, values, and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related construction field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrates excellent presentation, verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.
  • SME in Quantity Surveying.
  • RICS certified or equivalent accreditation.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in quantity surveying, cost management, construction management, or engineering.
  • Construction consultancy experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and experience in managing a cost management team to ensure all accountabilities are met.
  • Lead client, stakeholder, and consultant interactions at all project stages.
  • Maintain excellent communication with clients and consultants throughout all project phases.
  • Perform quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various parties, including general contractors, owner's representatives, and external stakeholders, taking responsibility for Turner & Townsend coordination within the overall construction process.
  • Coordinate and assist with the strategic and operational management of Cost Management and Project Controls Services in various sectors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for reporting on the overall commercial status of a project.
  • Drive Turner & Townsend best practices throughout all project or program stages.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in cost management procedures, processes, templates, and products.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews.
  • Set a clear strategy and ambition for the team.
  • Identify, coach, and mentor talent to help them realize their potential and celebrate their successes.
  • Grow and develop exceptional people.
  • Demonstrate excellence in leadership and service delivery on commissions, aligning with appointment conditions.
  • Manage finances by utilizing internal software to track ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts for each commission and financial reports.
  • Develop priority plans, including risk mitigation through internal tools, and conduct performance measurements via KPIs and appraisal documents, management controls, and critical success factors based on company goals.
  • Implement and maintain the use of internal Business Management Systems and company delivery methodologies and tools to ensure consistent delivery of best practice for clients and the company.
  • Undertake internal BMS audits and coordinate/represent the office for external audits by the certification authority.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the market, acting as a brand ambassador, and creating a pipeline of opportunities.
  • Advise on contracting and procurement strategies for clients across various industries and procurement routes, as well as program-level capital planning and reporting.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and cross-functional team members.
  • Participate in meetings with the VP of Business Unit, Directors, and staff, and prepare/deliver presentations.
  • Provide weekly updates on project status, initiatives, and staffing, proposing solutions and obtaining management approval.
  • Identify and act upon cross-selling or business generation opportunities.
  • Participate in generating proposals/RFP responses for new clients/projects.
  • Ensure key information and learning from each commission are captured and entered into internal databases.
  • Attend relevant networking events.
  • Act as a role model promoting a unified business culture that achieves great outcomes by balancing the needs of people, clients, stakeholders, and society.
  • Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.
