Communications is comprised of four distinct yet synergistic teams that work collaboratively with a focus on proactive and progressive approaches to: Corporate Reputation & Brand; Commercial Communications; Enterprise & Leadership Communications; and Digital Channels & Content. The Associate Director, Consumer Social Media Strategy is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role responsible for the development, execution and optimization of all consumer-facing content and corporate social media initiatives that support business and commercial priorities. This role translates the corporate digital vision set by the Senior Director into best-in-class digital experiences, driving audience engagement, building brand trust, and directly supporting commercial priorities. This leader brings deep expertise in consumer social media strategy, planning and execution. This Associate Director Consumer Social Media Strategy is accountable for creating and leading the corporate social content strategy across all owned corporate social channels. This role will also support the development and execution of the corporate influencer program by contributing to driving strategy, governance, and collaboration with brand teams to create engaging consumer-focused social content. This person is a creative storyteller and strategic thinker who is a social media expert and passionate about content and the role it plays in enhancing the reputation of the Company. This role will collaborate with a wide variety of key stakeholders across the organization to develop content aligned with our purpose and that engages our key stakeholders. This person will work with the USO Communications Team to execute on goals in support of the Company's strategic commercial priorities and corporate brand, while maintaining the highest editorial standards with a focus on expansion and growth.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, English or a related discipline required
  • Minimum of 12 years of communications, public relations or relevant consumer marketing experience
  • Direct, hands-on experience in consumer digital content, social media strategy, and multi-channel activation
  • Demonstrated expertise in translating complex scientific or technical information into clear, compliant, and consumer-friendly digital content
  • Proven experience in managing digital activation, including high-level expertise in paid media strategy, SEO/SEM, and web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics)
  • Advanced proficiency with social listening, content management, and community engagement platforms
  • Proficient knowledge of social media environments (paid and organic), digital communications and visual communications
  • Experience setting goals around audience growth and associated reporting
  • Leadership to appropriately guide, mentor and develop team members
  • Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction, plans and proven ability to drive and sustain business improvement and results
  • Ability to work under tight timelines, in what can be a stressful environment with limited planning or preparation
  • Ability to demonstrate business acumen and work across all levels of the business
  • Proven ability to effectively manage projects and influence individuals, teams and stakeholders
  • Able to work effectively in a cross-functional, collaborative environment with global as well as regional considerations and, sometimes, political implications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a communications function in a large, heavily matrixed, multinational company preferred
  • Experience in managing and working with a communications agency environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the overarching corporate social media strategy (organic and paid) across all corporate platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) to align with corporate reputation goals and commercial business priorities, with a consumer focus
  • Own the tactical execution of the corporate social media strategy and roadmap, managing corporate channels to create engaging content journeys that support commercial priorities, data announcements and product launches
  • Acts as primary content curator and creator, overseeing the work of other content creators and managing various content types including long-form editorial pieces, campaigns and social media content
  • Oversee the integrated social media editorial calendar, ensuring consistency of corporate messaging and acting as a steward of the company brand
  • Implement advanced digital trends and technologies, staying current on the latest platform capabilities, algorithm changes and emerging social media technologies to maintain a competitive edge
  • Support the development of the USO corporate influencer program, focusing on identifying, training, and managing internal subject matter experts to build digital authority and trust
  • Serve as the expert on social media channel performance, risk management, competitive analysis, and emerging best practices to inform tactical decisions
  • Oversee US-directed social media governance and guidelines, managing the day-to-day implementation of compliance training and real-time monitoring to ensure all activity adheres to regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate closely with Media Relations, Enterprise, Executive & Corporate Comms and Commercial Comms teams to leverage content opportunities consistent with the corporate strategy and narrative
  • Manage creative agencies and respective budgets for content projects from conceptualization through final execution
