About The Position

The Associate Director of Community Engagement and External Relations will have a range of responsibilities related to engaging Miami alumni and startup and business ecosystem professionals, and related activities associated with the capital campaign for the Department of Entrepreneurship and the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of work experience in business or a related field.
Understanding of entrepreneurship, as demonstrated by coursework or professional experience.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to travel.
Ability to adapt within an entrepreneurial start-up environment.
Excellent written and oral presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

An M.B.A. or advanced degree in a related field.
An understanding of executive-level outreach and cultivation activities
Experience with external corporate relations and/or executive-level outreach and cultivation activities.

Responsibilities

Support alumni engagement and external relations priorities for the Department of Entrepreneurship and the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship.
Coordinate alumni and partner events, and provide stewardship efforts with the Department of Entrepreneurship and John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship donors.
Develop and execute annual entrepreneurial engagement plans for the Institute’s priority cities, in alignment with the Executive Director’s strategy. Set partner targets and student-opportunity goals; build relationships with alumni and ecosystem partners; and convert those relationships into internships, student projects, mentors, judges, speakers, company visits, and venture support.
Coordinate engagement activities and events for Miami University alumni-founders, alumni-funders, and other professionals from the business and startup ecosystem, among others.
Manage external communications with Miami University alumni-founders, alumni-funders, and other professionals from the business and startup ecosystem, among others.
Coordinate cultivation of host company organizations and/or guest speakers, judges, and mentors for curricular and co-curricular programs.
Provide oversight of the student incubator and student accelerator, including annual plans, recruitment, selection, partner coordination, budgets, and outcomes, while coordinating the pathway from courses, student organizations, and competitions into those programs and external startup opportunities.
Manage alumni engagement and external relations database.
Perform other duties as assigned.
