About The Position

Cedars-Sinai is hiring an Associate Director, Clinical Operations of Academic Affairs for Women's & Guerin Children's. This role is responsible for organizing, directing, and overseeing daily operations, including the management of operational programs and services, financial oversight, and staff management. The Associate Director assumes fiscal responsibility by preparing operational, capital, and academic budgets for respective departments. They also serve as a liaison with medical staff, ancillary departments, and other personnel to ensure patient advocacy, guide nursing staff in providing care consistent with nursing standards, and promote employee growth and development. This role supports research and participates in strategic planning for departmental goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Five (5) years of experience within a healthcare setting such as medical, surgical, stroke, radiation and/or related department/unit required.
  • Four (4) years of experience managing academic clinical department(s), service line(s), and/or related required.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience and overseeing department(s)/service line(s) in a healthcare setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Science in Nursing, and/or related strongly preferred.
  • Experience in managing academic affairs strongly preferred.
  • Travel required as needed by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing, directing, and overseeing daily operations.

  • Collaborating and coordinating interdepartmental problem solving to support and enhance operational flow and department efficiency.
  • Developing business and operation plans for departments and specific programs by preparing, monitoring, and controlling budgets and ensuring conformity with established budgetary goals.
  • Managing monthly reports to explain variances and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Reviewing and approving departmental expenditures for appropriateness and compliance within budget; reducing expenses and generating increased revenue.
  • Creating policies and procedures and implementing performance improvement initiatives.
  • Setting up data collection processes and reporting systems as necessary.
  • Developing staffing plans to ensure appropriate staff levels based on patient volume and activity.
  • Responsible for hiring, maintaining and improving competencies, and staff development to increase employee skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Conducting performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and action plans.
  • Supervising the day-to-day work of employees, assigning work, and ensuring tasks are completed and deadlines are met.
  • Assuring staff competency for implementation regarding the provision of age-related patient care.
  • Providing appropriate assessments, interventions, and evaluations of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population.
  • Driving and ensuring positive and effective full-service patient care to include patient advocacy.
  • Ensuring the unit maintains a patient focus by serving as a role model with consistent focus on customer relations, providing feedback regarding positive and negative patient comments, and participating in customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations, and ordinances of respective clinical support programs.
  • Maintaining staff compliance with CSMC policies, procedures, standards of care, clinical guidelines, and protocols.
  • Maintaining a positive work climate, ensuring appropriate staff education, promoting an environment that fosters self-directed staff, assisting employees to develop and contribute to the organization, and applying human resource policies fairly and consistently.
  • Applying Improving Organizational Performance principles in daily oversight of the department/unit.
