About The Position

The Associate Dean for the Glassell School of Art is heavily involved in the planning and oversight of course curricula for the school’s adult classes as taught through the Studio School, as well as the school’s new Early College Program (ECP). This position holds primary responsibility for curriculum planning each semester for the Early College program, and works as the liaison and manager for the School’s partnership with the University of St. Thomas. The Associate Dean maintains an active teaching and creative practice while contributing to the leadership and daily operations of the school. The position is a split teaching and administrative role, with an expectation of three days per week dedicated to administrative responsibilities and the teaching of four courses annually.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required (MFA preferred).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in higher education, including teaching and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a positive and productive workplace culture.
  • Familiarity with academic roles, policies, procedures, and governance structures.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office software, with a willingness to learn new software as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with administrators, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, reviewing, and implementing the Studio School curriculum and has primary responsibility for curriculum planning for the Early College Program.
  • Liaises with other staff and partner organizations as needed.
  • Serves as the point of contact for Glassell’s partnership with the University of St. Thomas and works with the Dean and Glassell Register on semester-to-semester planning.
  • Monitors enrollments, keeping the Director and Dean updated, and intervening with enrollment initiatives as needed.
  • Evaluates enrollment patterns at the end of each semester, including the identification of strong and weak enrollments at both the department and individual course level.
  • Submits an enrollment report to the Dean and Director of Glassell each semester.
  • Oversees Glassell’s Study Tour programs, solicits proposals from faculty and others, and works with them to develop itineraries in consultation with the Dean and Associate Director, with support from the Executive Coordinator & Program Manager.
  • Works with Dean, Registrar, and Faculty to produce and publish the tri-annual course catalog, including assisting the Dean in developing standard curriculum schedules, as well as working with the Dean and Faculty to suggest and develop new course offerings and workshops.
  • Ensures the semester schedule aligns with room availability and confirms the accuracy of course listings, including date, time, location, duration, and assigned instructor.
  • Collaborates with Glassell staff to ensure accurate course descriptions, policies, and pricing.
  • Manages production and distribution of the Studio School course catalog in collaboration with the Publications department, Glassell Marketing staff, and other departments as needed.
  • Updates catalog materials in digital locations as needed.
  • Works with Dean to recruit, review, and select qualified applicants for contract teaching positions for both the Studio School and Early College Programs.
  • Works with the Dean to onboard and manage teaching faculty.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for contract faculty to solicit proposals for courses and workshops, and to match contract faculty with open teaching slots within the semester schedule.
  • Works with the Dean to onboard new contract faculty, including providing building tours upon hire and facilitating connections with appropriate department heads.
  • Works with the Dean and department heads to create and review faculty evaluation materials; collaborates with the Dean to review evaluations and, as appropriate, conducts annual reviews and provides feedback to faculty.
  • Attends all faculty and department head meetings.
  • Works with the Dean, as directed, in counseling of new and continuing students, including students attending Glassell classes through the school’s partnership with the University of St. Thomas.
  • Collaborates with the Glassell recruiter on Open House events, providing administrative context, registration support, and academic insight, including portfolio reviews as appropriate.
  • Participates in Glassell Studio and Early College Program Open Houses and Information Sessions as scheduled.
  • Participates in Block and Study Tour Program Information Sessions as scheduled.
  • Teaches four courses annually on a schedule mutually agreed upon by the Associate Dean and Director.
