About The Position

The Associate Dean of Health Science Programs provides college-wide administrative oversight of the Health Science Division, supervises, and coordinates all health science activities and programs, and researches the viability of new programs and their Implementation. The position will assist with assessment, program review, program activity, faculty evaluations, articulations, and transitions for secondary HS students. This position will work in collaboration with BSCC administrators, faculty, and staff, as well as businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master's degree in a health sciences or closely related discipline from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative or supervisory experience in healthcare or higher education setting is required.
  • A minimum of at least three (3) years of experience ensuring compliance with state licensing and regulatory requirements, specialized program accreditation, and/or institutional accreditation standards is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development and management, personnel supervision and evaluation, curriculum and program development, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness is required.
  • Candidates must provide evidence of sustained professional engagement and leadership within their healthcare profession.
  • Candidates must possess teaching experience in a community college or other higher education setting.
  • Candidates must hold a current, unrestricted professional license or credential in an appropriate health care discipline, when applicable.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the College’s mission, vision, and community college philosophy.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology, digital learning environments, and emerging educational technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day administration for all Health Sciences programs, personnel, and operations across the division.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, evaluate, and recommend the appointment, renewal, promotion, rank advancement, or nonrenewal of Health Sciences faculty and staff in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Instruction and other College administrators to develop and implement strategic initiatives, instructional plans, course offerings, faculty assignments, and institutional priorities.
  • Lead faculty orientation, professional development, and continuous improvement initiatives to support instructional excellence and employee success.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor division budgets; recommend resource allocations, technology needs, and capital improvements to support Health Sciences programs.
  • Coordinate the development, revision, implementation, and annual evaluation of Health Sciences curricula and academic programs, including recommendations for new programs and program improvements.
  • Lead the division's planning, assessment, and Institutional Effectiveness processes by developing annual goals, monitoring outcomes, and implementing continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with College policies, Alabama Community College System requirements, accreditation standards, regulatory agencies, and program-specific approval and accreditation requirements, including coordinating reports, self-studies, clinical affiliation agreements, and required documentation.
  • Maintain official division records, reports, contracts, and other administrative documentation necessary for the effective operation of Health Sciences programs.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative partnerships with healthcare providers, business and industry, school systems, community organizations, governmental agencies, and institutions of higher education to support workforce development, clinical education, and student success.
  • Coordinate and support Health Sciences events, special projects, community engagement activities, recruitment initiatives, and other division-related programs.
  • Review and approve faculty and staff leave requests, travel, timesheets, and other personnel actions in accordance with College policies and established administrative procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, communication, and enforcement of College policies, procedures, and operational practices related to Health Sciences programs.
  • Recommend faculty and staff appointments to College committees and serve on institutional committees, task forces, and administrative teams as assigned.
  • Inform the Dean of Instruction of significant operational issues, opportunities, and developments affecting Health Sciences programs and actively support College goals, initiatives, and administrative decisions.
  • Review and edit College publications, catalogs, promotional materials, and other communications related to Health Sciences programs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain appropriate professional licensure, certifications, and credentials, and participate in relevant local, state, regional, and national professional organizations to remain current in healthcare education and workforce trends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or the President.
