About The Position

The Associate Dean for Personnel, Budget, Policy and Planning advises the Dean and provides strategic recommendations on a wide range of issues including personnel management, budget, policy, and planning for the College. This role is responsible for overseeing the budget and financial operations of the College, working closely with the Dean. The Associate Dean also collaborates with other College staff on matters such as instructional capacity, development initiatives, technology support, and facilities/space coordination, ensuring these align with budget and planning objectives. Beyond assigned responsibilities, the position involves developing policy recommendations for the Dean and making decisions within the established parameters.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree: PhD in a field in Arts and Sciences required by the appointment start date
  • Tenured associate or full professor in a discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences
  • At least two years of administrative responsibilities (e.g., undergraduate program director, graduate program director, associate department chair/school director, department chair/school director)
  • Skilled in collaborating with people individually and in groups
  • Willing to learn about and work with budgets, personnel matters, and institutional planning processes
  • Capable of managing policy development and implementation
  • Skilled in keeping adequate records and analyzing information
  • Skilled in data management and analysis
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience dealing with complex budgets, at least at the department/school and/or program level
  • Experience handling faculty annual evaluation, promotion, and tenure processes at the department or program level
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a collaborative team in developing and implementing policy regarding personnel and/or budgeting
  • Experience with strategic planning
  • Experience leading in a unionized environment

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Dean and make strategic recommendations on personnel management, budget, policy, and planning issues related to the management of the College
  • Oversee budget and financial operations for the College in collaboration with the Dean
  • Collaborate with other members of the College staff on issues such as instructional capacity, development, technology support, and facilities/space coordination as these areas relate to budget and planning
  • Develop policy recommendations for the Dean
  • Make decisions within parameters set by the Dean
