About The Position

The Associate Dean for Faculty Success will lead the college’s efforts around faculty support and success. At times, the role will require leading initiatives and at other times will serve in a support capacity. This role is part of a reconfiguration of the dean’s leadership team. Accordingly, the exact contours of each associate dean’s portfolio might collaboratively shift and other duties may be assigned as the team coalesces. This is a 12-month appointment, beginning July 1, 2026. This position carries a three-year (3) term, with possibility of renewal. While structured as a 12-month appointment, summer term will provide opportunity for time off. The compensation for this role is an annual administrative stipend of $25,000. The faculty member in this role will be expected to: Maintain up to a one-course annual teaching load. No departmental service or participation in routine departmental meetings and affairs.

Requirements

  • Full-time, tenured or teaching-line faculty member at the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Strong demonstration of leadership at the department, college, and/or university level
  • Terminal degree in their field
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, directors of undergraduate studies, enrollment teams, academic advisors, and senior college leadership.
  • Ability to navigate being a confidential sounding board for college decision-making alongside a deep commitment to timely and transparent communication with the community.
  • Ability to provide high-level project management support to a broad variety of academic programs and protocols.
  • Ability to quickly resolve operational and compliance issues and make sound decisions in complex environments
  • Ability to impact and influence others to further the institution's strategic objectives.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information and the message.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall support to faculty to successfully navigate university and college processes, as well as elevate their teaching and research
  • Manage new faculty mentoring program
  • Organize CAHSS faculty (and staff and graduate students, where appropriate) development workshops
  • Offer individual faculty mentoring/support (e.g., promotion planning) as senior leader outside the direct lines of supervision and review of faculty
  • Communicate key information, policy updates, funding and other opportunities to faculty, and respond to faculty queries about policies and processes
  • Collaborate with the AD of Student Success for issues regarding students
  • Support faculty to purse internal and external grant opportunities, including reviewing applications, providing necessary approvals, and facilitating accurate budgeting
  • Identify an equitable process for Seed Funding, startup, and other resources
  • Oversee all Faculty Awards, internal and external nominations
  • Sabbatical/leaves approvals, in coordination with the business operations team and enrollment services team
  • Collaborate with the AD of Academic Transformation on the Effort Units project
  • Liaise with VP for Faculty Affairs; participate in FAAD
  • Liaise with SVP for Graduate Education and Research
  • Serve as college liaison for Academic Assessment as needed
  • Oversee reappointment processes in CAHSS
  • Review and update T&P expectations, develop strategies to support successful reappointments and promotion
  • Collaborate with Dean and Vice Provost for Faculty Success on strategy to maintain R1 level research and creative works
  • Oversee re-appointment processes for tenure line, teaching line, and all visiting appointments, prepare all dossiers for final dean review
  • Support chairs and directors of CAHSS APT homes to successfully lead their departments
  • Support and supervise center directors reporting into the dean's office
  • Work with dean and business operations team to track chair appointments as well as create and send out chair appointment letters
  • Organize and schedule new chair orientation session(s)
  • Serve as first point of contact when chairs are not sure of the appropriate avenue for addressing a problem
  • Oversee all CAHSS policy and process tracking, revisions, and formation
  • Serve as ex-officio support for newly formed CAHSS process and procedures committee, including building and distribute agendas, maintaining records of decisions, support next steps in decisions
  • Manage department bylaws review, committee and dean approval
  • Support all faculty hiring requests and processes, including tenure line, Teaching line, VTAP and adjunct requests
  • Collaborate with the Enrollment Services Team to monitor and track faculty course load expectations and annual fulfillment of expectations, including in year adjustments due to leaves, releases, and buy-outs
  • Attend college curriculum committee meetings as ex-officio member
  • Review and approve all items put forth by the college curriculum committee
  • Serve as lead liaison and support for the Elected Faculty Committee
  • Recognition and acknowledgement of faculty success (news, publications, awards, screenings, shows)
