About The Position

The Data Science Leadership Development Program (DSLDP) is a three-year rotational program designed to grow and develop participants' data science and self-leadership skills. Each rotation involves hands-on experience, a comprehensive Data Science curriculum, and a formal mentoring program. Participants will explore various analytics functions and learn from different leaders within Travelers. Data Scientists at Travelers utilize advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to enhance organizational intelligence and customer experience. As an Associate Data Scientist, you will analyze data sources to generate actionable insights and build models to solve key business problems. This position is intended for internal employees, 2026 Travelers Summer Interns, and Summer Students applying for 2027 Full-time or Intern opportunities. Applications from other audiences will not be considered at this time.

Requirements

  • Master's in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Basic working knowledge of modeling/research/ analytics or actuarial required.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques with the ability to learn statistical software programs.
  • Execution focused with the ability to complete assigned steps to support developing advanced models.
  • Ability to apply statistical procedures to work as directed.
  • Developing knowledge in: Regression, Classification, Machine Vision, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning and Statistical modeling.
  • Strong track record of taking ownership and responsibility for actions and outcomes, performance, and results.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in identifying current or future problems or opportunities, analyzing data, synthesizing and comparing information to understand issues, identifying cause/effect relationships and exploring alternative solutions to support sound decision making.
  • Ability to remain energized and focused in the face of ambiguity, change or strenuous demands.
  • Proven customer service skills with the ability to provide service excellence to internal or external clients.
  • Demonstrated track record of self and social awareness, empathy and balances confidence with humility.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to actively engage with others while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Capability of exercising sound judgment, making decisions and committing to a position.
  • Proven capacity to works with and include people from different backgrounds, experiences, cultures, races, etc. and view those differences as assets to be leveraged to accomplish business goals and objectives.

  • Ability to work together in situations when actions are interdependent, and a team is mutually responsible to produce a result.
  • Possession of a strong drive to do what it takes to get the job done; inquisitive and demonstrates a strong willingness to learn.
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Decision Sciences, Actuarial Science or related analytical STEM field or any suitable and equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Heavy concentration in mathematics, including statistics and programming, business intelligence/analytics, as well as data science tools and research using large data sets.
  • Additional verification of specific coursework will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks to support the development of analytical solutions following defined processes.
  • Learn domain and business knowledge to perform assigned steps to build statistical models.
  • Communicate analysis, insights, and results to manager and working team.
  • Develop your understanding of key business areas (e.g., product, enterprise, industry, claim process and competitors) that enable project work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
