About The Position

As our Data Engineer, you will function as a consultant between our technology unit and other business units to understand their challenges. You’ll ask questions and present ideas that enable them to solve those data problems with code. To thrive in this role, you must understand how to query and process large data sets of 200,000 rows or more, ideally in SQL. You must also have functional knowledge of at least 1 programming language like Python. Be prepared to share an example of how you have worked with multiple tables to develop a solution to a business problem (real or hypothetical for more junior candidates). Note: This is a hybrid role; the candidate must reside within a 100-mile radius of our Costa Mesa, CA office and be available to work on-site 3 days a week on a regular basis, as well as 2–3 times per month for team meetings and collaboration days.

Requirements

  • Passion for problem-solving using data.
  • Experience in querying high volumes of data (200,000 rows or more) and performing data analysis.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Functional knowledge of at least 1 programming language like Python.
  • Experience quality testing and coding.
  • A willingness to collaborate with non-technical or technical leads.
  • Experience working with an Agile team or understanding Agile concepts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Spark.
  • Experience with data integration from different sources into Big Data systems.
  • Ability to share an example of how you have worked with multiple tables to develop a solution to a business problem (real or hypothetical for more junior candidates).

Responsibilities

  • Coding solutions to issues across the business based on technical specifications.
  • Asking questions and performing quality testing to ensure solutions meet business objectives.
  • Working side-by-side with the business to ensure solutions work as expected.
  • Translating technical specifications into functional code (for junior applicants).
  • Participating in daily standup meetings and completing projects or stories during sprints.
