About The Position

Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving people in need. It fights poverty through comprehensive social services and treats each client with compassion, integrity, and respect. Its programs serve more than 350,000 clients each year and include affordable housing, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention, and kosher food distribution through a network of food pantries, housing sites, and affiliated JCCs across New York City. The Associate Counsel is an attorney who supports the agency on a range of legal matters. The role drafts and reviews contracts with funders, partners, consultants, and service providers, and assists with contract administration, board matters, insurance requirements, and compliance. The position is full-time, with 40 hours per week.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.).
Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
Three years of experience in contract review, drafting, and compliance matters.
Demonstrated excellence in legal research and writing.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
Strong critical-thinking skills.
Ability to assess situations for importance, urgency, and risk, and make timely, clear decisions in the agency’s best interest.

Responsibilities

Advise leadership and individual departments on legal matters and risk.
Review and draft legal agreements.
Coordinate with insurance partners and internal teams to ensure agreements have appropriate coverage.
Track contract renewals and deadlines.
Draft board minutes and resolutions, correspond with entity boards, and ensure compliance with governance requirements.
