About The Position

OHLA USA is seeking an Associate Counsel in Irvine, CA. This role reports to the General Counsel and is responsible for providing legal support across a variety of areas, including construction and commercial contracts, dispute resolution, corporate governance, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public contracting and a desire to work on large infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • A Juris Doctor or LL.M degree
  • CA Bar
  • At least 5+ years of experience with background in public contracting strongly preferred
  • Prior experience directly advising clients on complex matters.
  • Solid experience in balancing business needs and risk
  • Fluency in Lexis, MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint and proficiency in MS Excel (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Analytical skills and ability to develop reasoning independently.
  • Brilliant writing skills - ability to craft compelling and persuasive narratives and draft favorable agreements without legalese.
  • A high EQ and IQ
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing demands and adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
  • A friendly and professional manner that engenders trust.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of construction and commercial contracts
  • Develop strategies for resolving disputes and claims and supervise outside counsel on litigation
  • Represent OHLA in mediations and attend arbitrations as client representative
  • Draft corporate documents, joint venture, and partnership agreements
  • In conjunction with legal department, advise senior-level executives on legal, operational, compliance and regulatory risk and corporate governance matters
  • Develop deep relationships with our construction project teams and key business partners
  • Develop and implement strategies across the organization to improve our legal processes and reduce risk
  • Tour our projects throughout the region and assist project staff as necessary
