About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking an Associate Counsel for its Legal Affairs department. This role will focus on reviewing, analyzing, drafting, and negotiating below-the-line agreements, with exposure to above-the-line talent agreements. The position involves handling acquisition and development agreements, as well as other below-the-line legal documents crucial for production, including location, lease, and vendor agreements. The Associate Counsel will be responsible for interpreting contracts accurately and efficiently, providing timely legal advice on potential risks and issues, conducting independent chain-of-title research, and managing unsolicited submissions of material for the motion picture group. Additionally, the role includes formulating and revising department drafting templates.

Requirements

  • JD degree from an accredited law school
  • 1+ years of legal experience at a motion picture or television company or entertainment law firm
  • Member of the California Bar or registered with the California Bar as in-house counsel
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with a range of personalities and styles and be able to establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization
  • A problem-solving approach
  • Self-motivated and have a very strong work ethic
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to handle and track a high-volume workload
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, analyzing, drafting, and negotiating primarily below-the-line agreements with exposure to above-the-line talent agreements
  • Handling acquisition and development agreements and all other below-the-line legal documents over the course of production, including but not limited to physical production-related agreements, such as location, lease and vendor agreements
  • Interpreting contracts in an accurate and efficient manner and provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues
  • Conducting independent chain-of-title research
  • Handling unsolicited submissions of material for the motion picture group
  • Formulating and revising department drafting templates
