About The Position

The Associate Compliance Coding Auditor performs routine coding and documentation audits using established methodologies, regulatory guidance, audit tools, and standard operating procedures. This role develops proficiency in compliance auditing through structured onboarding, mentoring, calibration, and quality review.

Requirements

• Foundational knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and medical documentation requirements.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state requirements related to healthcare documentation, coding, billing, and compliance.
• Ability to research, interpret, and apply authoritative coding and regulatory guidance.
• Knowledge of CMS documentation and coding requirements.
• Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze information, identify relationships and downstream impacts, determine root causes, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when evaluating documentation, coding, billing, and compliance-related matters.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to establish positive and collaborative working relationships with individuals across diverse roles and backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complete highly detailed work accurately and timely.
• Ability to understand system, workflow, and process connections and their potential impact within a large healthcare organization.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
• Ability to learn and effectively use MDaudit and other compliance, coding, and healthcare technology platforms.
• 2–3 years of healthcare coding experience
• Active coding credentials such as CPC, CCS, CCS-P, COC, RHIT, RHIA, or comparable nationally recognized coding credentials are required.
• Healthcare coding experience required
• High school diploma

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of teaching physician documentation requirements preferred.
• Direct compliance-auditing experience preferred, with opportunities to develop audit experience in the role.
• Experience with MDaudit or a comparable healthcare compliance-auditing platform preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining and advancing coding knowledge through continuing education, professional association participation, or similar professional-development activities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assigned routine coding and documentation audits using established audit methodologies, tools, templates, and standard operating procedures.
• Review medical record documentation for appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and other applicable coding and documentation requirements.
• Accurately document audit findings and supporting rationale in MDaudit or other designated systems.
• Complete assigned audits through the established workflow, including finalization, communication, education handoff, and closure requirements.
• Escalate complex, unclear, or potentially high-risk coding and compliance matters to appropriate senior team members.
