About The Position

Old Republic Title is seeking an Associate Claims Counsel to evaluate, manage, and resolve title insurance claims nationwide. This is an excellent opportunity for entry-level attorneys — including candidates who are fresh out of law school, have passed the Bar, and are looking to build their legal career in a stable, business-oriented environment. This is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance two days per week, and can be based out of our San Francisco, CA; Roseville, CA; or Lynnwood, WA office locations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor.
  • Licensed to practice law. If not licensed by the state bar at employee’s office location, they must be permitted to act as corporate counsel in that state.
  • Knowledge of title insurance and real estate closing transactions is preferred; however, strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills with an interest in real estate/title law will also be considered.
  • Aptitude for processing and organizing large volume of documentation and written communications.
  • Written and verbal communications are clear, grammatically correct and business appropriate.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Problem solving ability to effectuate solution for covered claims.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage title claims from states on a national level.
  • Claims management includes investigating and determining coverage, correspondence with insured as to coverage and status: statutory compliance resolving title defects, directing defenses with outside counsel, negotiating settlements mitigating losses for the company, determining agent liability, and pursuing/preserving recovery.
  • Review and track expenditures related to claims.
  • Negotiate claim settlements and obtain approval where necessary.
  • Own a customer’s issue from initial contact to resolution or transition the issue to the appropriate person.
  • Ensure company policies and financial controls are understood and uniformly followed and administered and ensure work activities are carried out in compliance with federal, state and local laws.
