About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking an Associate Chemist (Level 1) / Chemist (Level 2) to join their team in Promontory, UT. This position is 100% onsite. The Chemist performs a variety of moderately complex chemical, mechanical and physical analyses on various materials including in-process testing of propellants to determine material composition and/or physical properties as required per customer specification. This position will work a 4/10 schedule, with every Friday off.

Requirements

  • Approved STEM Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry, Engineering, etc.) with 0 years of professional/relevant experience (for Level 1).
  • Approved STEM Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional/relevant experience – OR – Approved STEM Master’s degree with 0 years of professional/relevant experience (for Level 2). (Chemistry, Engineering, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance
  • Strong hands-on chemistry and computer aptitude
  • Experience using scientific instrumentation and equipment
  • Intermittent shift and weekend work required
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 1.5 years working in quality, test, production, or material research environment.
  • ICP Spectrophotometry, GC, LC, or HPLC chromatography experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Uses moderately complex test instrumentation and computer operated data acquisition set-ups and standardization to obtain necessary test data.
  • Evaluates results of chemical and physical testing data. Prepares and maintains analysis logs, records, documentation, standard works, etc. May assist in the development of new methods.
  • Assists in the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation and data acquisition equipment.
  • Works with LIMS and Quality and inventory databases to track material and test results.
  • Works with experienced chemists and technicians who operate analytical test equipment including chromatographic and spectroscopic instrumentation, particle size analyzers, viscometers, titration equipment, mechanical testing instrumentation and various other instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • Testing will include analysis of production and subscale propellants and ingredients.
  • Candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations.
