About The Position

This job offers pastoral care to patients, families, staff and visitors during emergent calls and as needed. Offers support in response to urgent requests, during codes, and at the time of death and assists in decisions near the end of life as needed. Requirements

  • Graduate theological degree from CHEA-accredited school (at least 48 semester credit hours) and one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Ordination or commission to function in ministry/pastoral care and endorsed or in good standing with faith group
  • Knowledge of different philosophical systems and religions and ability to be conversant in ethical dialogue.
  • Working knowledge of psychological and sociological disciplines.
  • Ability to provide spiritual care and support to a diverse population.
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • 1 year of experience offering pastoral support in an interfaith and culturally diverse environment
  • Board certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) within two years of being hired into the position
  • Associate Chaplain certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC)

Responsibilities

  • Provides presence, comfort and spiritual support to patients, families, and visitors during emergent calls and as needed.
  • Provides pastoral care to staff during emergent calls and as needed.
  • Ministers to families and staff during crisis and death during emergent calls and as needed.
  • Maintains collegial ministry relationships.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
