The Associate Chaplain provides spiritual care within the local ministry to patients, residents, participants, families, visitors, colleagues, and the broader community. The role focuses on spiritual distress, grief support, crisis intervention, and support during significant life changes. As an integrated member of the healthcare team, the chaplain works alongside other caregivers to address spiritual needs and ensure that the religious beliefs, practices, and values of those served are honored throughout the healing process. The chaplain assesses spiritual and religious needs, including needs for ethics consultation, and provides appropriate interventions or referrals. The role documents assessments, care interventions, observed outcomes, and plans of care in the electronic medical record. The chaplain also develops, conducts, and participates in spiritual care programs that promote healthy communities and sacred environments, and facilitates involvement by community faith leaders as appropriate. In collaboration with the Spiritual Care Manager, the chaplain evaluates and improves spiritual care processes in alignment with approved Mission Integration strategies and system-wide priorities. This position reports directly to the Manager of Spiritual Care and may also report to an immediate ministry site supervisor. It requires travel among Mount Carmel sites and the ability to organize priorities, adapt to frequent changes, and work on multiple tasks in a potentially stressful environment.
