About The Position

Stout's Valuation Advisory professionals help clients gain confidence by bringing clarity to complex financial and valuation matters. As part of our Business Valuation and Litigation Support Group, you will contribute to high-impact engagements spanning disputes, transactions, and financial analysis across a wide range of industries — including family law and marital dissolution matters, where Stout operates one of the largest and most experienced practices in the country. As an Associate, you will work closely with senior team members to support rigorous, well-supported analyses for engagements that may ultimately be used in mediation, arbitration, or trial settings. This role offers meaningful exposure to complex financial disputes, including commercial litigation and the nuanced, high-stakes world of marital dissolution involving closely held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and sophisticated financial structures.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in business valuation, litigation support, forensic accounting, or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of financial theory, economics, and accounting principles
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with experience in valuation methodologies preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and accountability for results
  • Professional presence and ability to build relationships with clients, counsel, and internal teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in litigation support involving financial disputes (e.g., business valuation, forensic accounting, economic damages, fraud analysis, family law) is preferred but not required
  • Professional certifications such as ABV, CVA, CPA, CFA, or CFE are preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform business and entity valuations using accepted methodologies, including discounted cash flow analyses, capitalization of earnings, and market-based approaches (comparable companies and transactions)
  • Support analyses related to merger and acquisition transactions, purchase price allocations, and stock option valuations — including valuations of carried interest, deferred compensation, and other complex financial instruments in the context of marital dissolution
  • Assist in the valuation of closely held businesses, partnerships, and professional practices, including analysis of personal versus enterprise goodwill
  • Conduct income analysis, financial tracing, and separate versus marital/community property tracing assignments in litigation contexts
  • Support forensic accounting work, including analysis of cash flow and lifestyle, identification of unreported income or hidden assets, and investigation of asset dissipation or fraudulent transfers
  • Assist in preparing clear, comprehensive written valuation reports and expert analyses for client presentations, settlement proceedings, and potential legal proceedings including depositions and trial
  • Participate in client interactions, including due diligence meetings, mediation, arbitration, and collaborative divorce processes
  • Perform company, industry, and economic research to support valuation conclusions
  • Collaborate with team members to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
