About The Position

The Associate Business Data Analyst is an entry-level member of Security Benefit's Data Intelligence team within the Director, Data Analysis & Integration portfolio. In this structured learning role, the Associate supports data collection, validation, and reporting activities under close guidance from senior analysts. This role provides foundational exposure to Security Benefit's data products, analytics environment, and the ELT data architecture that underpins the organization's enterprise reporting capabilities. The Associate develops core analytical skills while contributing to the team's delivery of data-driven insights across business domains including retirement services, annuities, and investment products. The Associate Business Data Analyst position reports to the Director, Data Analysis & Integration and can be based out of our home office in Topeka, Kansas, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 0–2 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or a related analytical role; internship or coursework in data analytics accepted
  • Foundational understanding of data concepts including relational data structures, data quality, and basic reporting
  • Familiarity with data querying tools (e.g., SQL, Snowflake) or strong interest in developing these skills; coursework or self-study accepted
  • Exposure to data visualization or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills; ability to maintain accurate records and follow documented processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to ask good clarifying questions and listen effectively

Nice To Haves

  • Financial services, retirement, or insurance industry exposure is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection, extraction, and preparation from established data sources under the guidance of senior analysts (e.g., cloud data warehouse, operational system extracts)
  • Support the production of standard reports, dashboards, and data summaries by assembling and formatting data inputs according to documented processes
  • Perform data validation checks against established quality rules; document exceptions and flag discrepancies for review by senior team members
  • Help maintain data mapping documentation, data dictionaries, and process flow diagrams for assigned data products
  • Assist with testing activities including execution of pre-written test scripts, logging results, and supporting UAT coordination with business partners
  • Participate in meetings with business stakeholders and data product owners to observe requirements gathering and analysis sessions; document meeting notes and action items
  • Support the development of requirements documentation under direction, including data flow diagrams and functional specifications
  • Learn and apply Security Benefit's data architecture patterns (ELT — Extract, Load, Transform) and contribute to understanding of data source-to-product lineage
  • Perform other analytical and documentation duties as assigned to support team delivery goals
