About The Position

The Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) division at Goldman Sachs brings together traditional and alternative investments, offering clients a dedicated partnership and focus on long-term performance. As the firm's primary investment area, AWM provides investment and advisory services for leading pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, financial advisors, and individuals, overseeing more than $2 trillion in assets under supervision. The Marcus US Deposits business, part of AWM, offers savings accounts and certificates of deposit to customers. The Marcus US Deposits Business Controls function is a first-line risk and controls management group responsible for process and controls design, assessment, issues management, monitoring, testing, risk reporting, and governance. The Risk Governance team specifically focuses on managing the Consumer Risk environment within AWM, acting as the first line of defense to ensure strong risk mitigation governance and collaboration with the second and third lines of defense. This role will focus on maintaining the health of the risk mitigation framework and proactively identifying risks in partnership with risk partners and business leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years related work experience in an Operational Risk, Audit, Change Management role or transferable knowledge.
  • Understanding of Consumer banking processes in a risk management context are required
  • Exposure to qualitative and quantitative controls across financial products.
  • Strong analytical orientation, lateral thinking, organizational, influencing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform data analytics using metrics to identify trends and themes
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate issues and ideas with different levels of stakeholders
  • Innovative, including a keen eye for identifying areas of unmitigated risk
  • Good influencing skills to challenge the status quo
  • Sound time management skills to be able to effectively prioritize and multi-task.

  • 3-5 years banking experience, specifically in operational risk, compliance, internal audit or corporate governance
  • Experience in Consumer Banking (Deposits), specifically in operational risk, change management, or compliance
  • Working knowledge of financial, operational, compliance, and reputation risks

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify business risks, process deficiencies, and potential gaps/ weaknesses in risk management practices.
  • Present outcomes of gap assessment and remediation to leadership.
  • Pre-empt 2LOD/3LOD engagements by pro-actively reviewing process documentation (process maps, procedures, etc.) and working with stakeholders to identify existing controls, identify control gaps (automation, detective reporting, etc.) and ensure that risks are sufficiently mitigated.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional working groups to reconcile engineering roadmaps and daily intake requests, ensuring all prioritized initiatives are seamlessly aligned with the PRC Change Management framework.
  • Lead cross-functional 2LOD/3LOD engagement efforts across the business.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to map change management activities to reporting requirements, preparing bi-weekly impact assessments and supporting ad-hoc audit deliverables.
  • Head continuous change management improvements by compiling and delivering daily risk escalations, monthly performance reports, and organic growth metrics to executive audiences.
  • Maintain effective communication with other teams to facilitate weekly executive approval meetings, resolve past-due tickets, and shepherd the implementation of corrective actions for non-compliance with policies and procedures to ensure timely resolution.
  • Contribute to executive reporting and other data-driven deliverables, with a focus on providing appropriate content, context, and structure in a precise and timely manner.
