About The Position

The Associate Attorney assists Owner, Partners and Associates in providing legal counsel to clients who need to resolve familial conflicts. Their main responsibilities are conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and appearing in court. They also strategize, negotiate, and represent clients.

Requirements

  • License to practice law in California without any disciplinary action on their records.
  • Basic understanding of financial documents, including tax returns, calculating support on XSpouse, completing Income and Expense Declarations; more advanced skills such as examining marital standard of living and business valuations is a plus.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Meet deadlines, calendar court events, be timely and responsive to clients’ and co-workers’ communications.
  • Superior management skills; self-reliant, good problem solver and results oriented.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams etc.
  • Able to critically think, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • More advanced skills such as examining marital standard of living and business valuations.

Responsibilities

  • Assume 25-45 active family cases with supervision that involve dissolution of marriage, legal separation, parentage, child custody, spousal support, child support, attorney’s fees, as well as prosecuting and defending domestic violence restraining orders.
  • Interact with clients from the beginning to the end of the case so that the client feels attorney is responsive and compassionate to client’s needs.
  • Conducting research using legislation, case law, and other legal texts as sources to decide the best strategy of a case.
  • Drafting persuasive and grammatically correct legal texts, including Declarations, Judicial Council forms, Memoranda of Points and Authorities.
  • Analyze conflicts in legal matters, advise clients on solutions, and negotiate on behalf of clients.
  • Communicate with Owner, Partners, Associates, paralegals, legal secretaries, opposing counsel, and clients to ensure cases are handled efficiently.
  • Ensure that data obtained during interactions with clients remain confidential and are stored securely.
  • Ability to propound and respond to discovery including but not limited to Requests for Production, Form Interrogatories, Special Interrogatories, Requests for Admission, Subpoenas, and Depositions.
  • Draft and review Preliminary and Final Declarations of Disclosure.
  • Appear in court in person and or remotely several times per week.
  • Available during work hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, by video, phone, email, text, Microsoft Teams.
  • Continuing education and developing expertise in the area of family law.
  • Billing a minimum of 135 hours per month.
  • Remaining abreast of changes to case law and legislation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
