About The Position

Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing and seeking an Associate Attorney with 0-2 years of experience to represent homeowner, condominium, and community associations. The position offers immediate and direct client contact, work on substantive matters, and contribute to exceptional client service. Qualified candidates must be licensed in Illinois and possess strong writing and analytical skills. Knowledge of the Illinois Condominium Property Act/Common Interest Association Act is a plus. The starting salary is $100,000, contingent upon experience. The role begins with 60-90 days of in-office training, followed by a hybrid schedule determined by the manager.

Requirements

  • Active Illinois Bar license in good standing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality work product and client service.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to remain professional, organized, and effective when managing competing priorities and time-sensitive matters.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant legal or office software.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Illinois condominium law is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Illinois Condominium Property Act/Common Interest Association Act is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal representation and counsel to homeowner, condominium, and community associations.
  • Advise Boards of Directors on corporate governance, covenant enforcement, contract matters, and other association-related legal issues.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, and governing documents, including Declarations, Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, Rules and Regulations, and other association documents.
  • Conduct legal research and document review and apply findings to client matters.
  • Draft, review, finalize, and record legal documents and correspondence related to association matters.
  • Prepare opinion letters, violation notices, demand letters, and other legal correspondence.
  • Attend client Board meetings and provide legal guidance and recommendations as needed.
  • Utilize applicable platforms to facilitate association-related transactions and documentation.
  • Manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize deadlines, and provide timely follow-up to Partners, Boards of Directors, and clients.
  • Participate in required and relevant Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
