About The Position

Complete routine legal projects as assigned for the benefit of internal and external customers in a timely and effective manner. Interact with company personnel on relevant legal issues, and assist in the communication of legal information to external customers as directed. Effectively and efficiently analyze and resolve routine day-to-day corporate legal matters as assigned in a manner consistent with company objectives.

Requirements

  • Must possess analytical, legal research, and legal drafting skills.
  • Must be able to analyze and resolve general insurance issues.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others (both orally and in writing).
  • Must possess knowledge of tort, contract, corporate, and insurance law.
  • Must be able to understand insurance company products and operations.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Must possess the ability to handle confrontational situations in a productive manner.
  • Must be able to make independent decisions.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.
  • Must be able to focus on assigned tasks for prolonged periods of time.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and a JD degree are required.
  • One to three years of relevant work experience (attorney, law clerk, paralegal, insurance industry, relevant volunteer work, etc.) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance-related studies and studies involving technical legal writing are desired.
  • Prior experience in contract drafting, corporate law, or other legal document preparation is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively and efficiently undertake routine document analysis and contract drafting.
  • Effectively and efficiently undertake routine regulatory research and compliance analysis.
  • Effectively and efficiently undertake routine legal risk management analysis and drafting, as well as other legal projects as assigned, for the benefit of external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.
  • Effectively and efficiently undertake routine insurance coverage analysis and insurance policy drafting.
  • Promptly respond to LegalAssist inquiries received as assigned.
  • Promptly respond to agent, policyholder, and regulator inquiries as assigned.
  • Research, analyze, and apply policy language, statutes, common law, and other applicable legal concepts in order to effectively accomplish routine legal projects.
  • Advise company personnel on routine legal issues, and communicates legal information to external customers as directed.
  • Participate in and provide input at meetings involving collective decision-making, and contributing as requested to departmental or interdepartmental processes.
  • Provide timely status reports concerning assigned legal projects to legal department management and to others as appropriate.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
