About The Position

Earthjustice seeks an Associate Attorney for its Rocky Mountain Regional Office in Denver, Colorado. This is a three-year position, with potential for extension, designed to develop early-career attorneys into skilled public interest litigators. The role involves supervised case management, gradually increasing independent responsibility. The Associate Attorney will contribute to the Rocky Mountain Office's mission of transitioning to clean energy, defending communities from pollution, and protecting public lands and wildlife. The position focuses on climate and clean energy matters, using litigation and advocacy before state and federal regulators and courts to promote renewable energy resources, electrify transportation and buildings, challenge fossil fuel investments, and amplify environmental justice communities' voices. While the primary focus is climate and clean energy, other cases may be assigned as needed. Earthjustice is a leading environmental law organization dedicated to protecting biodiversity, averting climate disaster, and ensuring a healthy environment for all. Founded in 1971, the organization has a strong track record of achieving lasting environmental protections.

Requirements

  • Law school graduate with 1-5 years of legal experience.
  • Admitted to, or willing and eligible to apply for admission to, the Colorado State Bar.
  • Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong and demonstrated work ethic, good judgment, initiative, and creativity.
  • Strong desire to fight for the right of all to a healthy environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team-oriented atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting legal and factual research.
  • Reviewing and analyzing administrative records and technical documents.
  • Drafting motions, briefs, and other legal and factual documents in support of litigation and administrative advocacy.
  • Participating in proceedings before federal and state courts and agencies.
  • Cultivating relationships with clients, experts, allies, and coalition partners.
  • Integrating media and legislative advocacy into litigation and other legal strategies.
  • Hiring and supervising law students as Earthjustice interns or clerks.
