Associate Attorney
About The Position
Brown & Crouppen is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our Plaintiff Personal Injury Litigation and Pre-Litigation Practice. This role provides an excellent opportunity for attorneys early in their career to develop hands-on litigation experience while also gaining exposure to pre-litigation case development. The Associate Attorney will work closely with multiple seasoned attorneys, learning all aspects of personal injury law—including case investigation, negotiation, discovery, depositions, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy. This is a high-energy, client-focused role that requires strong communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively with a team of legal professionals.
Requirements
- 1-3 years’ experience handling personal injury cases, including pre-litigation and litigation experience
- J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license in good standing
- Bar licensure in both Illinois and Missouri
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict court deadlines
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Nice To Haves
- Experience handling courtroom motion practice is preferred
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and case evaluations to determine claim viability
- Work with case managers and investigators to gather medical records, police reports, and other evidence
- Engage in client consultations and keep clients informed about case progress
- Draft demand letters and negotiate settlements with insurance companies
- Collaborate with attorneys and medical experts to assess injury causation and damages
- Take and defend depositions of clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing parties
- Draft discovery requests, pleadings, and motions
- Argue motions in court and handle motion practice
- Monitor case progress and develop litigation strategies in collaboration with senior attorneys
- Prepare for and participate in jury trials, including assisting with voir dire, opening/closing arguments, and witness examinations
- Communicate regularly with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel
- Attend court appearances, mediations, and settlement conferences
