About The Position

The Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and Compliance is a senior member of the athletics leadership team responsible for the effective administration of internal athletics operations. The position provides leadership and oversight for athletic facilities, event and game-day operations, scheduling, budgets, personnel, risk management, policies and procedures, and NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance. The position works collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, campus departments, vendors, conference representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure athletic programs and events are conducted safely, efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with applicable policies, regulations, and governing requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of collegiate athletics operations, facility management, event administration, compliance, and student-athlete support.
  • Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies, contracts, NCAA and conference regulations, and applicable requirements.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, develop, and evaluate employees.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with University personnel, student-athletes, coaches, vendors, officials, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive personnel, student, financial, and compliance information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic administration, sport management, business administration, public administration, higher education, or a related field.
  • Progressively responsible experience in collegiate athletics administration, facility operations, event management, compliance, or a related area.
  • Experience managing complex events, facilities, budgets, personnel, or administrative operations.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, conference regulations, and intercollegiate athletics administration.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, financial, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively to changing circumstances.
  • Proficiency with standard office, scheduling, budgeting, and records-management technology.
  • Valid Driver’s License Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in sport administration, business administration, higher education, law, or a related field.
  • Senior-level administrative experience within an intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Experience with NCAA compliance, championship event administration, facility management, capital projects, procurement, risk management, or emergency planning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for the internal operations of the Athletics Department and advise the Director of Athletics regarding facilities, events, budgets, staffing, risk management, compliance, and operational needs.
  • Oversee the scheduling, use, maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of athletic facilities and coordinate facility needs with appropriate University departments and external vendors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee home athletic contests, tournaments, championships, camps, clinics, and other athletic events, including staffing, security, facility preparation, emergency procedures, and event logistics.
  • Develop and maintain athletic facility and event schedules and resolve scheduling conflicts to support student-athlete needs, athletic programs, and University commitments.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor operational budgets; review expenditures, purchasing activity, contracts, invoices, and financial reports for accuracy and compliance with University requirements.
  • Coordinate vendor and contract administration, including procurement, service agreements, insurance requirements, performance, and renewals in accordance with University procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, operational manuals, emergency plans, and internal controls.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate assigned athletics personnel and promote accountability, professionalism, safety, and effective service.
  • Provide administrative support for NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance; assist with rules education, required reporting, documentation, audits, and the identification and resolution of potential compliance concerns.
  • Coordinate risk management and emergency preparedness for athletic facilities and events, including emergency action plans, safety procedures, incident documentation, security, weather-related concerns, and medical response.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between Athletics and University departments, including Facilities, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Public Safety, Information Technology, Risk Management, and Institutional Compliance.
  • Support the health, safety, academic success, and overall experience of student-athletes through effective operational planning and decision-making.
  • Attend athletic contests, meetings, and other University or professional events as assigned and serve in an administrator-on-duty or sport/championship administrator capacity when designated.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope and level of the position as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
