About The Position

Chronicle Heritage is seeking a professionally qualified and experienced architectural historian. This position will involve providing technical expertise and leadership to guide a variety of projects through the environmental and historic preservation compliance processes for our clients in the private and public sectors. The successful candidate will serve as part of our growing national historic resources program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in historic preservation or a closely related field, such as history, architectural history, or public history
  • Meet or exceeds the SOI Standards for Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61)
  • 2+ years of experience conducting historical research, completing historical resource surveys, and evaluating the historic and architectural significance of properties under National Register of Historic Places criteria, and preparing effects assessments
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal historic preservation laws and regulations, particularly Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act
  • Some travel throughout Midwest territory

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in historic preservation or a closely related field, such as history, architectural history, or public history
  • Experience with facilitating consulting party coordination and preparing MOAs
  • Experience with preparing architectural drawings and documentation
  • Exceptional research, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • GIS experience
  • Experience working with the Wisconsin SHPO, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and/or Minnesota SHPO.

Responsibilities

  • Work with our team of cultural resource professionals to plan, organize, and manage historic resource surveys and other investigative work related to the identification, evaluation, and assessment of effects to historic properties
  • Prepare technical reports and associated documentation
  • Assist with the development of proposals and cost estimates
  • Regularly communicate with clients to keep them informed of project progress, project schedule review, and ensure all project needs are being addressed in a timely manner and within budget
  • Assist with coordinating project review with state and federal agencies, including various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs)
