Associate Animal Scientist (St. Edward)
About The Position
GGP, LLC is seeking Associate Animal Scientists in St. Edward, Nebraska. The role assists experienced team members in developing improved practices for feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of pigs, sows, and gilts. The Associate Animal Scientist works with others to oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems and to develop improved products and techniques that could enhance swine health, quality, and production. The position also involves assessing animal health, participating in treatments and vaccinations, overseeing the selection and movement of animals, and recording assessment data using a PDA or computer. Duties include participating in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and handfeeding; documenting sow and gilt activity on sow cards; and/or participating in estrus detection and insemination. The employee learns animal selection and breeding processes intended to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality.
Responsibilities
- Assist experienced team members in developing improved practices for feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of pigs, sows, and gilts.
- Work with others to oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems.
- Help create improved products and techniques to enhance swine health, quality, and production.
- Assist with assessing animal health conditions and participate in administering treatments and vaccines.
- Oversee selection and movement of animals marked or moved.
- Enter data about animal health assessments using a PDA or computer.
- Participate in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and handfeeding.
- Document sow and gilt activity on each sow card.
- Participate in estrus detection and insemination of sows and gilts, as applicable.
- Learn animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality.
