About The Position

The Associate Actuary is responsible for assisting in the determination of Commercial rates. Associate will be part of the Connecticut Local Actuarial team performing recurring and ad hoc analyses. Responsibilities include but are not limited to rate impact analysis, supporting forecasting functions, and supporting regulatory filings. Under limited supervision, performs advanced actuarial and statistical analysis by applying the appropriate actuarial analytical tools to the data. Updates actuarial pricing, forecasting models as directed. Refines and collects appropriate data for actuarial analysis and ensures its reasonableness as well as accuracy by coordination within the division. Serves as informal mentor to other analysts on the team, guiding them through projects and advancing their analytical and technical skills. Performs key actuarial functions including new product pricing, evaluation of the impact of new legislation, flexible benefit consulting, and special projects.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and minimum of 4 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • ASA required from the Society of Actuaries (SOA).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced MS Excel experience (i.e. data modeling, complex functions, pivot tables, and creating dashboards for data visualization purposes) strongly preferred.
  • Ability to write and optimize complex queries to ensure data integrity and reliability when cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large datasets using SQL, SAS, or other data tools strongly preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills strongly preferred.
  • Commercial health insurance experience preferred.
