About The Position

Ameritas is looking for an Associate Actuary to join their Corporate Actuarial Projections team. This position serves as a department subject matter expert on actuarial model use cases, essential for the company's risk management, profitability, and compliance. The role involves providing actionable information for business decisions, designing and managing project initiatives, and business processes within the job area. The company's mission is 'Fulfilling Life' by helping people invest in themselves through trusted financial products and advice, including life and disability insurance, employee benefits, retirement planning, investments, and wealth management services. This role can be hybrid (Lincoln, NE / Cincinnati, OH) or remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
  • 4-7+ years of actuarial modeling experience, preferably with indexed life and/or annuity with living benefit experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities to produce and facilitate others’ production of high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed calculations with a high-level of understanding.
  • Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes, and other work performed.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prophet software knowledge strongly desired.
  • SQL experience is beneficial and useful.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation desired.
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries desired.

Responsibilities

  • Run and analyze recurring actuarial model use cases such as Asset Liability Management, Own Risk Solvency Assessment (ORSA) compliance, Cash Flow Testing, Risk Based Capital, Liquidity Testing, and Financial Forecasting.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on life insurance and/or annuity modeling.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver timely model results and analysis supporting management's strategic decisions.
  • Lead and support others in project management and troubleshooting of large-scale development initiatives.
  • Enhance and streamline the model projections process.
  • Perform and document dynamic and static validations (analysis of change and results, policy audits, initial values).
  • Identify and support process improvements.
  • Support the Prophet model development life cycle, adhering to Model Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Compile and analyze data using statistical formulas and actuarial methods, including reviewing others' work.
  • Set up, test, validate, and maintain actuarial models for specified actuarial use cases.
  • Help implement procedures to comply with new regulatory, control, or governance requirements.
  • Respond to requests for information from actuaries, accountants, auditors, management, other associates, and external stakeholders, providing actuarial analysis.
  • Provide guidance, training, and peer review for other actuarial associates.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the organization on business initiatives.
