About The Position

Join PGE’s project delivery team as a Project Controls Scheduler supporting a multi-project capital initiative with long-duration milestones, complex dependencies and significant investment. This is a hands-on scheduling role for someone who enjoys bringing structure and visibility to complex project work. You’ll develop, maintain and analyze detailed project schedules; validate activity logic and dependencies; identify critical path and schedule risks; and provide clear, timely reporting that helps project teams and leaders make informed decisions. We’re looking for someone with project controls and scheduling experience who can work across project management, construction, engineering, operations and other partners to keep schedules accurate and actionable. Experience with Primavera P6 is needed, along with the ability to understand complex project dependencies, identify potential schedule impacts and clearly communicate what the schedule is telling us. This position may be filled at the Associate (P2) or Senior (P3) level, based on the successful candidate’s experience and demonstrated depth of scheduling and project controls expertise. Requirements

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in construction management, quantity surveying, project management, engineering or other related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically, two (2) or more years in construction and scheduling for a regulated utility company or large complex engineering and construction firm, or a related field.
• Primavera P6 Foundations, AACE® CST (Certified Scheduling Technician) and/or PMI-CAPM® preferred
• Typically, five (5) or more years in construction and scheduling for a regulated utility company or large complex engineering and construction firm, or a related field.
• AACE® PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional) and/or PMI-SP® (Scheduling Professional) certificates preferred
• Project management/project controls principles, techniques, methods and standards, particularly related to construction projects and programs
• Project management computer applications and tools, such as team collaboration software, financial tools and spreadsheets
• Asset, financial and inventory management software
• Construction estimating, project risk management, project scope control and project communication management; P3 also includes job planning, design and construction activities

Responsibilities

• Supports the project scheduling process for utility projects, including capital maintenance and regulatory initiatives.
• Assists project teams in gathering and organizing data related to project scope, execution strategy, and job costing.
• Participates in early project planning discussions to help document scope elements and identify potential schedule drivers.
• Contributes to the development of project schedules by providing input on resources, productivity rates, and historical performance data.
• Helps identify and document assumptions for undefined or evolving project components, working closely with project team to ensure that schedules reflect realistic expectations and account for potential risks.
• Collaborates with Project Management, Engineering, Project Controls and financial planning teams to ensure alignment between schedules and overall project objectives.
• Reviews bid documents and assists with preparation of schedule requirements documentation.
• Develops and maintains milestone (Level 1) project schedules with the appropriate level of detail and scope to maximize efficiency by entering activities and logic in Primavera P6, maintain dates, run basic critical path checks, and update progress with supervision.
• Implement schedule reporting to help ensure schedule control, regulatory reporting and other project requirements are met.
• Monitors progress against baseline schedules and updates following governance guidelines.
• Performs critical path and what-if analysis.
• Updates schedules in systems as appropriate; regularly reconcile schedule progress dates with actuals.
• Follow established update cycles and change control; document simple process gaps (e.g., late field updates) for senior review.
• Provides high-level information to their project teams in the analysis of business processes, resource requirements and work efficiency.
• Follows set processes, analyzes throughput.
• Shadows more senior schedules during schedule process improvements.
• Translates processes into quantitative metrics/KPIs for measuring and reporting on project performance.
• Prepare standard KPIs: on time % of activities, look-ahead compliance, and simple variance-to-baseline charts for inclusion in weekly and monthly reports.
• Monitors project during all or assigned phases to identify real or potential deviations to schedules and project plans.
• Identifies scoping changes, analyzes impacts and adjusts project schedules accordingly.
• Track status against look-aheads, flag early delays (permits, materials), and communicate risks and issues as needed.
• Communicates variances and works with project manager (PM) to obtain appropriate level change approval as required.
• Maintains and delivers monthly project schedule status reports for assigned projects.
• Works with Project Manager (PM) to ensure coordination of efforts to issue timely, accurate project reports on project schedules, problems, risks and other significant issues; provides information, reports and presentations to key stakeholders and other company entities.
• Populate schedule snapshots, meeting notes, and update packages for PM sign-off; maintain baseline/change records.
• Administers applicable project scheduling databases and computer systems; validates and manages updates to project scheduling data; archives project scheduling data in accordance with PMO and records management requirements.
• Keep activity codes/calendars and other scheduling metadata consistent; ensure schedule files align with PMO data standards.
• Gathers updates from engineering/field personnel; communicates schedule status and updates to Project Controls and PMO management; develops communications specific to each stakeholder audience; responds to questions from stakeholders.
• Serves as a key resource within the organization for scheduling across a wide range of utility projects, including capital, maintenance, and regulatory initiatives.
• Plays a critical role in the early stages of project development by assisting with the definition of project scope, identifying key schedule drivers, and aligning scheduling efforts with the overall execution strategy.
• Collaborates closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Project Controls to evaluate and refine project timelines, ensuring that schedules reflect estimate assumptions and realistic resource availability.
• Provides expert input on schedule assumptions for undefined or evolving project components, leveraging historical data, benchmarking, and risk analysis to account for uncertainties and potential cost impacts.
• Advises project team on schedule-related issues, including cost risks, budget alignment, and strategic planning.
• Participates in cross-functional meetings to ensure scheduling practices are integrated with project controls, engineering, and financial planning.
• Reviews bid documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
• Develops and maintains milestone and detailed (Levels1-2) project schedules with the appropriate level of detail and scope to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and to meet the needs for timely and accurate project execution.
• Designs and implement schedule reporting to help ensure schedule control, regulatory reporting and other project requirements are met.
• Coordinates and integrates schedule inputs from partner organizations supporting assigned projects; works with project teams to resolve important and critical schedule issues or concerns; validates logic quality and float reasonableness.
• Support monthly forecast re-baselining with Finance/Project Management by providing appropriate level of schedule details to support financial forecasts.
• Contribute to or lead teams in the analysis of scheduling business processes, resource requirements and work efficiency.
• Develop processes, analyze throughput and refine/streamlines processes.
• Recommend scheduling improvements.
• Standardize the update cadences and handoffs (field → scheduler → finance); propose revisions to procedural controls to reduce cycle time.
• Make recommendations on systems and potential enhancements.
• Recommends or develops project or other operational performance metrics to report on project performance for management.
• May produce CPI/SPI metrics (intro to EVM); milestone adherence, variance drivers, and 30/60/90-day look-ahead hit rate metrics.
• Proactively monitors projects during all phases to identify real or potential deviations to schedules and project plans.
• Identifies changes to project schedules due to scope creep, schedule and/or material changes and internal/external resourcing and determines impacts to project success.
• Proactively monitor long-lead materials, permitting, and contractor productivity trends.
• Escalate risks with quantified schedule impact.
• Works with Project Manager (PM) to ensure coordination of efforts to issue timely, accurate project reports on project schedules, costs, problems, risks and other significant issues; develops and provides information, reports and presentations to key stakeholders and other company entities.
• Issue a monthly schedule controls packet (schedule narrative, variance causes, mitigation plans) for Project Manager (PM) and governance meetings.
• Demonstrates schedule-to-forecast linkage in Project Management Office (PMO) reviews.
• May build databases and applications to serve the business need for tracking and reporting current and historical schedule data.
• May serve as a schedule database product owner and subject matter expert for provisioning schedule data needed for strategic and long-range project planning.
• Collaborates broadly with project management and other key stakeholders to define resequencing options and scheduling details when necessary; coordinates tasks as needed.
• Builds relationships with key stakeholders; providing technical scheduling guidance and expertise as necessary.
