About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Dean of Richmond College, the Associate Dean serves as an advocate and support resource for students to enhance retention, persistence, and achievement of student learning outcomes. The Associate Dean works closely with the Dean in support of the College’s mission and strategic goals. The Associate Dean serves as an advisory resource to students, faculty, and administrative staff in interpretation of University academic policy and procedures. The Associate Dean also collaborates with Westhampton College and other campus partners, and serves as liaison with several divisional offices, working together to meet the University’s objective of a thriving and inclusive campus community.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge in the areas of college student development theory, best practices in student affairs programs applicable professional standards, policies, procedures, and legislation related to the areas of student life and student conduct is required.
  • Comprehensive experience and understanding of conflict management, student conduct, problem solving, crisis management, supervision, time management, project management, and budget management is required.
  • Proven ability to lead and demonstrated excellence in decision-making and judgment in routine and crisis situations is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic, high-stress, team-oriented, and collaborative environment is required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities while contributing to a positive student-centered environment is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; demonstrated event planning and presentation skills are highly desired.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, email/calendar software, and web-based applications; understanding of current social media platforms used by college students.
  • A master’s degree in higher education administration or related field is required
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of full-time experience in Student Development at the college level is required, with progressive responsibilities is desired.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the integrated functions of college-level registrar, admissions, financial aid, and student affairs is highly desired.
  • Training and experience in men & masculinities, gender, and identity theory/practice is highly desired.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments, is highly desired.
  • a doctorate in higher education administration or related field is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Student Support Responsibilities (55%) Works as part of the dean’s office team to provide essential services and support to students and other members of the University community, including maintaining regular office hours and sustaining a strong presence in the College and on campus.
  • In consultation with the dean, interprets and enforces academic policies and procedures as they pertain to Richmond College students at the University.
  • Provides general advising and meets with students experiencing academic, personal, and/or health problems, including providing guidance on academic policies and procedures.
  • Provides support and advice to parents/guardians and concerned faculty.
  • Provides support and assistance when necessary in response to individual or campus crisis situations and represents the dean on Threat Assessment Teams as needed.
  • Participates in on-call duty rotation and works closely with both College deans’ offices to provide support to students.
  • Provides academic advising and support to assigned first-year and sophomore pre-major students, including but not limited to academic performance, major acquisition, course selection, and understanding general education and graduation requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of professional developments in the fields of student development, masculinity, and theories of inclusion, through conference attendance, scholarly reading and research, participation in regional and national organizations, and other mechanisms as able.
  • College Programming, Communications, and Outreach (40%) Responsible for the communications strategy for the College, including the College’s website, managing social media presence and campaigns, and other digital and print media; Coordinates with other content managers to integrate social media content.
  • Assists and makes recommendations to the dean for strategic planning in both long- and short-term goal setting, and communication and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborates with divisional and University partners in the development of campus-wide programming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (5%) Represents the dean’s office on Student Development and University committees as appointed by the dean.
  • Represents the College and division on University and professional organizations, associations, committees and/or by presenting programs at professional meetings and conferences as appropriate; serves as the Dean of Richmond College’s designee as needed.
