About The Position

Work as a Nurse Consultant in the Adult Care Licensure Section involves regulatory activities to determine compliance with state requirements for assisted living facilities and overnight respite programs. The role includes conducting on-site inspections, analyzing findings, documenting compliance, and providing technical assistance to facilities, potential providers, and county Department of Social Services (DSS) staff. Significant oral and written communication is required. This position is home-based in the Eastern region of the state, requiring the applicant to reside in specific counties or adjacent areas. Frequent travel is essential, involving field inspections and occasional to frequent overnight stays, with travel expenses compensated by the State of North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
  • One year of experience in the area of specialization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in assisted living or long term care setting and working knowledge of the delivery of care and services in long term care.
  • Experience applying rules, statutes, and/or standards to ensure compliance in long term care settings, including participating in or conducting state or federal surveys, compliance audits, or accreditation surveys.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to document clearly and concisely in a technical report.
  • Must possess and maintain an active and unrestricted driver’s license and have the ability to drive for statewide travel as assigned.
  • Knowledge of current nursing practice, assessment, and care planning.

Responsibilities

  • Work both independently or as a member of a professional health care team conducting on-site inspections of licensed adult care homes and overnight respite programs to determine the facility’s compliance with licensure rules and statutes.
  • Analyzing survey findings and determining compliance with applicable rules and statutes then documenting findings in a legally defensible manner.
  • Providing technical assistance to facilities and potential providers.
  • Providing regulatory oversight and technical assistance to county Department of Social Services (DSS) staff.
  • Position duties involve significant oral and written communication with facilities, staff and public.
