The Assisted Living Certified Nursing Assistant, On Call, will perform skills required of a certified nursing assistant related to basic ADL care, nutrition and hydration, toileting, incontinent care, vital signs, and other nursing care as needed. This role adapts caregiving to build on individual resident strengths and abilities, actively supports the basic rights of residents, and assists in resident self-administration of medication as needed, including documenting medication administration and completing all required documentation related to centrally stored medications and refills. The CNA maintains an awareness of resident health, informs appropriate staff of any incidents or changes in resident condition, and documents resident care, behavior, and special needs as required. They apply clinical knowledge to validate and communicate instrument readings and provide nursing care to geriatric residents. The position requires active participation in department meetings and education programs, maintaining a current CNA certificate, and attending mandatory in-service training. Ensuring resident safety by maintaining a safe environment and using appropriate behavioral intervention techniques is crucial. The CNA recognizes and respects the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of residents, including their religious beliefs, and adapts caregiving to build on resident strengths and abilities. They keep alert to residents’ condition and report changes in attitudes, appearance, behavior, and physical ability to the Nurse in charge. The role involves performing selected nursing procedures that do not require professional evaluation as assigned and instructed by the Nurse in charge. Practices include conservation of equipment and supplies, keeping them clean and ready for use, and reporting any equipment and supply needs to the Nurse in charge. Ensuring that call lights/alarms are within residents’ reach and promptly answering call signals is a key responsibility. Anticipating residents’ needs, making routine rounds, assisting residents in recreational activities, and escorting residents throughout the facility are also part of the role. The CNA may assist in escorting residents to and from medical appointments as requested by the Pavilion Manager and assists with individual and small group activities that meet resident needs in social, friendship, physical, intellectual, vocational, and spiritual areas. Keeping written notes of specific assignments and recording pertinent information about residents, entering all appropriate resident data in the medical record timely and accurately, and communicating and cooperating with co-workers, residents, and other facility employees are essential. Establishing good working relationships with all departments and practicing good teamwork are expected. The role is accountable for maintaining a good record of attendance and punctuality, and for following Masonic Homes safety policies. Conveying information in a concise, accurate, and understandable manner, displaying attentiveness, tact, and diplomacy in responding to others, and actively participating in meetings and education programs are also required. Regular attendance and performing other duties as assigned are expected.
