About The Position

The Assistant Youth Facilitator I, also known as a Group Worker, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of program participants in an after-school setting. This role involves actively supporting students in following program guidelines, assisting with program implementation and documentation, and supervising students in various areas of the facility. The Assistant Youth Facilitator I will also help with classroom setup, distribute and collect materials, and assist in facilitating activities. Tasks may be modified or expanded as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or HSE
  • One year experience working with children under 13 years of age
  • Must obtain Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance
  • Must obtain doctor's note certifying good health
  • Must obtain proof of negative results from TB test
  • Must obtain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance
  • Ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of a public school (if applicable)
  • Must obtain Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance (PETs); if working in a NYC Public School building.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy policies intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changes in work environment
  • Attendance and punctuality.
  • Collect and submit program documents and reports.
  • Organizes and schedules people and tasks effectively.
  • Remains sensitive to issues and maintains confidentiality, neutrality and objectivity as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participate in daily meetings to discuss the plan for the day and the Assistant’s role.
  • Actively support students in following program guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Actively support program leader/program specialist in the implementation and documentation of program wide incentive programs with students on a daily basis, and provide follow up on a weekly basis.
  • Actively supervise students in the hallways, bathrooms and classrooms to ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist in taking daily student attendance.
  • Assist in classroom setup before and after program activity.
  • Distribute, collect, store instructional materials and/or sports equipment/games.
  • Assist clients, individually or in groups, with summer camp activities to present or to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Adhere to program policies regarding student arrival and dismissal, snack procedures, transition procedures and trip guidelines.
  • May assist in the facilitation of a club activity.
  • May operate learning aids such as film and projectors, smartboards, smart TVs, etc.
  • May prepare requisitions for instructional materials and supplies.
  • May type and copy instructional materials for distribution.
  • May confer with family members on progress of clients.
  • May co-facilitate a club activity.
