About The Position

The Assistant Wrestling Coach instructs student athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to support individual and team success. The coach also helps foster moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence, while promoting positive relationships among the school and community. The assistant coach reports to the head coach and high school athletic director and oversees their level of the program under the head coach’s direction.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of wrestling.
• Possess or be able to acquire a valid Colorado Coaching Certificate.
• Successfully pass the CHSAA coaches test, obtain CHSAA coaching registration, and complete a concussion course as required by state legislation and CHSAA by-laws.
• Current, unexpired CPR and AED certifications.
• Previous successful teaching, coaching, and/or sport participation experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with organizing and developing the high school wrestling program.
• Supervise aspects of the assigned program level under the head coach’s direction.
• Provide the head coach with information about the assigned program level, including scores, schedules, sites, discipline concerns, and procedures.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Schedule and attend practice sessions.
• Develop and implement individual and team training plans on appropriate daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly schedules, aligned with overall program goals and philosophy.
• Verify that each athlete has been cleared by the athletic office to participate.
• Comply with rules and regulations established by CCSD, the Centennial League, and the Colorado High School Activities Association.
• Monitor athletes’ attendance, behavior, and academic status.
• Use approved first-aid and CPR skills.
• Recognize concussion signs and symptoms and remove athletes exhibiting them from participation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
