About The Position

Assist the head coach in day-to-day operations with the women’s water polo program, including but not limited to coaching, player development, recruiting, scouting, academic support and general operations within NCAA rules. This is a part-time position averaging up to 29 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One to two years of experience
  • Previous coaching, playing, and/or teaching experience.
  • Appropriate knowledge of current thinking in areas of sport techniques and strategy, conditioning, fitness, and leadership and program management.
  • Ability to appropriately lead, motivate, and mentor student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as an independent contributor.
  • Good communication skills: both oral and written.
  • Responsible driving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, exuding a mature demeanor while multitasking in a deadline-oriented environment with accuracy and consistency.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretionary skills in determining when to act independently and when to consult management prior to taking action.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and demonstrated loyalty to the staff, program, and university.
  • In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.
  • Requires repetitive motions and possible sitting at computer keyboard.
  • Ability to stand for extended time.
  • Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
  • Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus.
  • Ability to bend, grasp, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.
  • Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Hudl, compliance software, and other sport specific web-based and/or scouting applications.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and develop sport-specific skills with the basic tenets and theory of the sport and skills needed to execute successful collegiate-level performance.
  • Aid in the physical development and organizational motivation of the team.
  • Organize and lead team and/or individual-athlete meetings involving coaching personnel.
  • Planning of practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
  • Ensure student compliance with rules regarding behavior and appearance.
  • Coordinate the conditioning and training of team members in conjunction with athletic trainers and team physicians.
  • Work cooperatively with university coaches, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Identify and evaluate prospective student athletes who are good fits for the university, both athletically and academically; communicate with PSAs and families; process official and unofficial visits while communicating through the completion of necessary admissions and university documents.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with local high school and club coaches.
  • Comprehend and operate by standards set forth in the NCAA and APU Manuals.
  • Ensure education and enforcement of NCAA rules as they relate to documentation and input of information in JumpForward and the NCAA Institutional Request List (IRL).
  • Coordinate discipleship and mentoring of student-athletes.
  • Attend required department meetings and NCAA rules presentations.
  • Assist in scheduling contests, scrimmages, and exhibitions while coordinating team travel arrangements within guidelines set by the department, institution, conference, and NCAA.
  • Assist in fundraising, alumni relations, community outreach, and ministry opportunities, communicating the current status of the program with alumni, friends, and supporters of the program.
  • Supervise equipment in annual procurement, inventory, distribution, and collection.
